Tyres - what to get and where to buy

Unread postby Jeatalong » 6 Feb 11, 7:39 pm

It's come time to spend a wad of cash on the most expensive consumable in a car, tyres.

So here I am putting it out there asking if anyone has had experience with any of the following tyres, and if possible what sort of price did you pay for them.

The size that I will be fitting is 215/60R16 for my Magna. And in no particular order here they are.

Tyre Name: Bridgestone Turanza ER30
Product Number: BR3021560H6

Tyre Name: Yokohama A.drive
Product Number: YOAA0121560H6

Tyre Name: Kumho KU27
Product Number: KUKU2721560V6

Tyre Name: Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval
Product Number: FSWOVL21560V6

I've used the Firestone wideoval on my old Galant and they were great for the price. Good everyday driving grip and wears pretty good (I quite often used them to go hills driving and they held up ok). And seeing as its going on a magna im going to assume your not after grip performance here. They were $180 a tyre for an odd sized tyre, so these should be fairly cheap.

I've used some yokohamas of the upper range which were excellent, but i know nothing about the lower A.drive models.

Turanza and the Khumo KU series are good, but for the model you are getting they'd both be around the same grip levels.

To be honest, for the car its going on and the type of drving (im assuming daily city driving) you probably won't notice much of a difference, but if I had to pick, I'd choose the Khumos first, then the Turanza at a very close second.

Also the most expensive consumable in a car is probably petrol :P

You might want to add the Dunlop Fast Response to your list too. They're actually a surprisingly good allround tyre.

I've had some good experience with the Turanza's, but they were a bit noisy at times.

Well ended up getting A.Drives for just under $140 a corner and a full alignment all set for Saturday.

I've got a set of Kuhmo's on my magna, make sure you ask if it's Japanese or Chinese made. Chinese made are lower in quality.

To late now,but you will never go wrong with Bridgestone,I sold tyres for 15 yrs
and the first Kumho tyres were made in Korea.
I would look very favourably at the Kumho for long mileage, safety(thick walls)and
good allround."a pun". Japanese Bridgestone are great for safety and performance.

Safe tyres aren`t expensive, they are all that is between you and the road.
