I'd like to disagree with the speed cameras being revenue raising cameras.
When speed cameras are placed in strategic areas that are known speeding hotspots, you shouldn't be speeding.
Also if you're speeding and you know there is a speed camera in the area (given the amount of signages present) you should be paying enough attention to slow down and not get caught.
If you're going that fast and unable to pick up a sign that says speed camera 24 hours >100m away. Then obviously you're going too fast.
And I hate when people use the defense "OH but we're too busy monitoring our speed, taking our eyes off the road" or "I should be looking at the road and not the signs" Firstly if it's on a flat surface you have no excuse, you should have the experience to estimate your speed to within 5k/h. You could argue the government allows 10ks given lower penalty. If you are unfamiliar with the road to actually KNOW where the speed camera is. You shouldn't be speeding in the first place no matter how well the conditions are.
And secondly, if you cannot pick up a simple sign. What chance have you got about picking up a kid that can run out behind a car?
If it's a camera downhill. I'd say it's a revenue raiser when there is no potential danger. I.e there is no hotspot/blackspots for car crash incidences.
Moral of the my rant? If you know where the speed camera is and if you get caught then you're a **** idiot. If you don't know where the speed camera is. You shouldn't be speeding because obviously you've never driven that road before and don't know the conditions. just because it seems similar to x doesn't mean you can go the same speed.
Note: Don't get me started on the new safety cameras in NSW. No signage a head telling people that there is a speed camera a head. The road I normally go to get to uni, I see it go off atleast 3 times a day. I won't get started though. I need sleep
