Only car I could recommend within your spec is another car like the 323.. lol Can't have much fun for $6k unless you maybe get a VL turbo :P

pt cruiser would probably be a bit pricey to fix compared with a lot of the others you've mentioned. they're not that common (for good reason).

i reckon you're on the right money with the accord idea.

Accords are expensive to fix. They're Euro remember? like the Beamer. Which you said you didn't want.

How about a Corolla... or even an Echo/Yaris?

A mate of mine fits his 2 kids easily in his Echo. One is pretty young (baby seat), not sure about the other though.
Its the perfect city runabout... costs peanuts to run and just keeps going and going.

Corolla isn't as cheap, but its a great car; an older one would be better than the equivalent golf, focus or mazda 6 in my opinion.

Liberty of the same year? Plenty of room in the wagon.

Just thought I would update this thread with what has happened...

Sold the 97 Mazda 323 for $5,500 with no roadworthy.

And found an 00 Ford Laser, slightly bigger than the 323 for $3500 with about $500 worth of work to get roadworthy and comes with Rego until July 11

So pretty happy with the laser, very clean car inside.

So you sold the 323, and bought a newer 323 in other words? I hope you're happy with your purchase :) lol

Yeah pretty much, but it is slightly bigger, way more back seat leg room... and has 3 baby seat bolt positions.

Also is a manual and way more go to it, and ended up being $1000 better off, even though the car is 3 years newer.

Why? I've seen this claim posted before, but no one has even been able to say why.

holy necro batman.

pt cruisers were made illegal as they don't meet Australian design requirements for our tough roads. essentially they fall apart and kill people, that and they look like dogs balls.
