lets say hypothetically your "friend" got multinova'ed 45 over limit in Western Aus, what he expect, the long shaft of the law being in his but with deep heat as lube?

Don't know. But in QLD that's probably 3 years without a license.

He can expect a court appearance and no licence for probably at least 18 months unless he can plead that he needs it for work etc, in that case he may keep his licence but be on like a good behavior bond where any driving offence will result in aforementioned long shaft of law.

He has lost it for a min of 3 months maximum 12
maximum fine of $1000

first offense and if he explains he needs license for uni next year and Flying, very likely to get the min( 3 months ) but at end of day is up to courts.

In WA it's an instant loss of license for 3-12 months and a $1000 fine for speeding at 40Km or more over the limit.

The general sentence is 3 months suspension (depending on previous offences etc.) and the $1000 fine as far as I know doesn't fluctuate because it coincides with the other fines according to how much you exceed the limit by.

I got stopped for doing 37K's over, copped 5 demerits and a $700 fine. Wasn't overly happy because the cop said I was in a different speed limit to what I actually was and he wouldn't show me his radar on request either! Wasn't too fussed though, took it with a pinch of salt.

Little did I know that earlier on in the day I was also done by a camera doing 21 over, copping 3 demerits and a $300 fine :dodgy:

Afaik the cops can't book you unless they can show you the radar gun.

My brother got pulled over along a back street, they asked how fast he was going then he asked to see the radar gun. They wouldn't show him most likely because they had no idea how fast he was going, so he pretty much just said thankyou and goodbye.

They don't need to show you the radar gun, as it saves all the information it records, I know this because I asked a police officer to record my speed as I passed to see if my speedo was accurate, he said he couldn't because all the information is saved. I think it's the same for breath testers too.

In that case I'd say they saw your brother going to fast but didn't have time/angle to record it so they pulled him over in the hope he would confess.

so you could go past a cop at 300kmhr, and because he doesn't have a radar gun with him, he can't book you?

yeah. that seems likely.

yeah. that seems likely.

There is no way for the cop to prove what speed you were going and it's your word against his in court so yeah, unless you admit it, it does seem likely.
