That BB gun is a bit out of the way for a lowbie to go get :P

Does some pretty amazing crit damage though.

If I knew where to go when I started the game, I would have had it at level 4. But it's out in the middle of nowhere.

Liking the Laser RCW (non-unique but meh). It's nuts. That + the Laser Commander (+15% dmg, +10% chance to crit, requires 90 energy weapons skill) perk.

If you haven't already, go find the Avenger minigun and load it up with armour piecing ammo. Hoooolllly ****. On very hard difficulty it takes out a deathclaw in 3 seconds. You can literally just walk up to a group of them and mow them down.

I think I've found all the good weaponry so far... but the best one I've gotten so far for the character I'm using is the Gobi Desert Sniper Rifle. It takes ages to wear down, and you get three shots in VATS with it. With all the extra VATS damage perks I've taken, it one shots deathclaws.

Just don't give it to Boone... he uses it like it is on full auto and chews through the ammo you give him. Image

Warning, storyline spoiler.

Although I think IMO it is his anyway because if you know his storyline he mentions that he watched at Cottonwood Cove where his wife was being enslaved and he shot her from his snipers position to "save" her and where you find the Gobi there is a snipers hide on the rocks overlooking Cottonwood Cove.

I still prefer the basic sniper rifle with carbon fiber and silencer mods.

It doesn't one shot deathclaws (on very hard difficulty, anyway), but the silencer means you can thin out a herd one by one without drawing too much aggro. And without using VATS, since you just take pot shots scoped in real time.

I don't much like VATS in New Vegas. It has crap-all range and gets you hurt more than it helps since you get locked up in a firing animation for AAAAAAAGGGGEEEES.

So my preferred non-vats combo of weapons are:

1. Mysterious Magnum for trash kills
2. Hunting Shotgun with beanbags for crowd control
3. Silenced Sniper Rifle for long range stealth kills.
4. Avenger minigun for short range defense.

Until I finish my Dart Rifle mod, anyway.
