Apparently the user agreement has something like you cannot use it for any game that may conflict with Crysis and that anything you make you cannot sell for 8 years.

QANTM Brisbane enquired about it and then found those parts and quickly decided against it after reading that part of it

i was probably exaggerating a little bit, i have absolutely no experience in animation haha, all i can do so far is databasing (good ole year 12). And i didn't know you had worked on the HDTP sorry. So, Deus Ex fans are crazier then Square Enix?

When I saw this, I assumed it was the original CryEngine (Far Cry) that they were speculating about, not CryEngine 3. A free version of CryEngine 3... that would be crazy awesome to work with.

If CE was crazy awesome to work with, then Devs would all be paying to use it. They're giving it away because Devs don't want to use it, so Crytek are trying to give them some incentive.

So on that then the Unreal 3 engine nobody wants to use, that's why it is now also free?

Bit of a difference between a brand new engine and an old one. They would have made their money back a long time ago, now getting as many people to use it as possible is a good way to get people to pay for your next one.

Cool, maybe the Mechwarrior Living Legends guys could make a stand alone game instead of requiring crysis to run. :D

I thought of that afterwards, yet still im guessing you will need to buy it to make money off of it in the first 8 years so this allows stand-alone mods to be made if they are not making people pay for it. If it is such a bad engine why release it and get the entire modding world agreeing? why bother making a follow-up to Crysis 2 and listen to the complaints of the first one?

lol. They're doing it in order to compete with UDK. Whether UE3 is old or not doesn't negate the need to compete for an indie fanbase.

Apparently the user agreement has something like you cannot use it for any game that may conflict with Crysis and that anything you make you cannot sell for 8 years.
I'd be surprised if this is exactly true as it completely negates the purpose of competing against UDK. Besides, that's a lot to swallow considering next to no information has been released yet. I understand you're heavily into the industry so i do respect what you've heard, but tbh i'm going to wait till we get some more info until coming to the "it sucks" conclusion :)
