Building a game in TAFE.

Unread postby lordkabab » 24 Mar 09, 9:23 pm

Hey, we're currently building a game in TAFE, in groups of four, and I need some general advice.
Our game is a basic Flash side-scroller shooter, but we're using 3D blender files for the character and weapons, I have some questions:

-Would it be best to juts to the models in 3D, and animate in flash, or get the anim sequences and just use flash to code?

-I need some good Action Script tutorials, I'm good with general scripts (I'm learning lua), so I basically need the how to's, and not the complete guides, I need tutorials like menu systems, with the ability to choose what sound track you have, and the control system.

Please help, thanks.

You can get basic flash 3D engines which might be able to help you out, I can't remember the name of the one I used though.

Is there a point of doing the files in 3D if you're doing a side scrolling shooter (which I assume would be 2D?). Thats a whole dimension you're wasting! :P

Regardless, I would animate it in the 3d program and just frame by frame it into a movie clip in flash
Are you a sardine?

Why not make the ship able to move down a level and up a level? So you basically have 3 planes.

Might be something you could implement later after the assignment for fun. If I recall university group assignments like this you tend to have a bunch of cool grand ideas and about 4 weeks to implement them.
