Don't you just hate it when...

Unread postby Mugsy » 18 Jun 12, 11:29 am

... you go to bid on something in the Auction House and accidentally put one too many zeros for the offer

At 10,000 I don't think anyone is gonna fight over these lvl 20 shoulder guards with me... just gotta wait till tomorrow to get it.

Two things.

Don't bid on items less than level 60. You'll outlevel them way too quickly.

The price you put in is your maximum bid. It takes the cash and will auto increment your bid up to the maximum if people bid higher than you. This way you can do absentee bidding.

PS. 10K is chump change :)

I disagree. I bought a bunch of +Gold, +Int and/or +Attack Speed gear for my Witch Doctor as I was levelling him up. I found that even with spending up to 50k upgrading his gear every 10 levels or so, I was still making a huge profit from all the extra gold find.

Plus it meant my WD was killing everything in one shot right up until Hell mode.

Most of my characters are still in their early to mid twenties. And the stuff I buy have got +exp so leveling up has been faster with the extra items. The extra vitality and additions the characters main stat also means I'm killing faster/surviving easier (as El_Funko discussed).

The price you put in is your maximum bid. It takes the cash and will auto increment your bid up to the maximum if people bid higher than you. This way you can do absentee bidding.

Does this mean that I won't pay that large amount if the next highest bid is around $6500?... each subsequent bid has to be a certain % more doesn't it?

You can buyout items pre 60. Just bidding on them is silly since in the time the auction completes you will have outleveled them. The only time a bid on a pre 60 item makes sense is if you aren't planning on playing until the auction would complete.

If anyone else bids less than 10000 they will get their money back and your bid will go to some value above theirs.

If you win you'll pay the current bid and get change back when the auction ends.

I just noticed this on an auction that just finished. I put down 2500, the item sold at 630, I got 1870 back.

Thanks for pointing that out mate... never noticed that over the whole month I've been playing the game and will remember it for items that finish bidding when I'm not around.

That does assume that the items have a buyout price and a reasonable one too. Just scanning my list of items which I've got bids on shows only one with a buyout and at 200k, I'm definitely not going to touch that with a 50 foot pole.

In saying that, I did scan the recommended items and there are ones with a reasonable buyout price... specs for the items vary. I guess a bit of trawling is required. I've only bought out a few items thus far but they were items that had good stats for the money being asked.

Bidding doesn't really worry me as I cycle between the 4 characters I haven't finished Normal with (so that one levels up enough to use a redundant item from a higher level character).

Incidentally, I got new armour for my monk where the icon shows it as orange but it's really white... my pink pants stood out big time so I ran off to dye the pants to more subtle blue to match the shoes.

Pre-60 you can get great stuff for dirt cheap, put in your level range and slot, go low buyout and sort by buyout price. Just get pages full of people putting items up for the recomemded price (<1k gold)

It seems if you don't put in a low max buyout, these items are hidden behind pages and pages of stuff with no buyout price.
