Its definitely do-able up to hell difficulty I'd say. Then you are just in for a very frustrating time :)

I dunno....it shouldn't be much different to D2. You use your highest lvl character to find items for the rest of your characters. As long as you have at least one character who can handle whichever bosses have the best drops.

Who knows? I might change my tune if I end up with tonnes of gold and no idea what to spend it on.

yeah. you'll find inferno difficult if you stick to found gear.

as has been mentioned, drops are balanced around AH. this is the only way to have the AH exist, because if drops weren't balanced around them, the AH would become useless.

I don't see why you are boycotting the AH. if you ever played D2 seriously, I doubt you could do hell runs properly with found gear.

problem with that is items that drop in inferno are typically all around level 60. this is one of the bigger problems I have with D3 right now, as it's nothing like D2. in D2 you had a good chance of finding a few low level set/uniques every run.

I'm not boycotting the AH or even hating on it.....my point was that some of us would rather find stuff than buy it.....that's all.

I reckon in this game, there's always something to spend money on... getting more stash space and upgrading the artisans already eat up a lot of gold.

Personally, I found the loot drops in Torchlight to be better... it was rather frequent were a unique item would be dropped and it was useful too. Diablo 2 got tedious but hopefully, the AH won't let Diablo 3 get to this point.

I get your point :). Our point is that unlike D2 the drops are less frequent to balance out the AH. It is directly taken into consideration.

I have heaps of drops for my lower level chars that I collected on my 60, they just cant be used till 50+ :)

Good luck, let us know how hard it is @ Hell and Inferno modes.

Yeah I'm already noticing the unique item drops are less frequent than in D2. So much so that I'm into Act 2 of nightmare and still haven't found a single unique (or legendary as they call them now) whereas in D2 we would've found maybe a couple by now.

I'm sure they'll tweak the item drops a bit in the future.

I've had to purchase my two lengendaries and they were only low level ones able to be used by characters lvl 15 and under. You just wouldn't use these when you're past lvl 30 IMHO.

It would be good if Blizzard tweaks the item drop frequency for those of us who just want to hack n slash and find loot but I doubt it... the AH and Artisans would hardly be needed then and they've invested too much into the former to do that and players who've leveled up the artisans will complain about their wasted money.

Was at level 60 for days before I found my first Legendary, with 2 alts in their 20's.

Got my second 2 days later....try stacking MF gear.

I don't really have a problem with it. The way I see it, I do find my gear - I just trade stuff I do find for stuff I want. I'm not buying gear with a magic influx of gold I got from nowhere, so the gear is still earned.

I completed the game first time (normal) without touching the AH. I'm happy enough with that and now readily buy from the AH. Going through nightmare I honestly can't remember the last time I found an item that matched and exceeded what I already had.

I take it back... my level 22 Monk found a legendary ring: Leoric's something or other. I was stoked to see the orange text. It's of no use to my Monk but it's quite good for my Wizard... she seems to be getting all of the legendary stuff I'm getting.

Does anyone know if, before we identify a rare or legendary item, if we give it to a character of higher level to do the identification, would we get a higher level item?

from what I've read, no. all item properties are decided on drop.

people are unsure whether quickly putting on MF gear before killing elite/boss does anything. blizzard have stated that they removed secondary weapons because they found people were only using it to switch to MF gear, but they haven't said anything about the exact details of the effect of MF on drops.

im pretty sure its the same as d2, in which that its already determined. (could be wrong about all of that though)
