I think the point of the article was to question why Blizzard, knowing that Australia and parts of Asia are included in the Americas servers, would decide to do maintenance during the peak playing time on a particular evening for Aussies rather than spread the impact a little.
Even if they delay maintenance till, say 10pm Sydney time here, we'd only be digging into part of the morning in the US. OK, so Perth would get F'ed still by having game time drop off at 8pm but that would be still better than 4-10pm for most people where from 10pm onwards, they'd be looking at getting sleep so they're not buggered for work the next day.
And while saying 'just put up with it' is an option, it's certainly not a fair option where Aussies have generally paid more per copy of the game but we lose one out of seven nights of play time while the US pay less per copy but get all seven nights of the week to play. That's pretty significant IMHO and this certainly was not clearly stated when I purchased the game.
In the end, for me, I'll still be finding something else to do on Tuesday nights as I doubt anything else will change. But I won't be changing my mind that Blizzard haven't maximised how fair they could be to the entire D3 gamers base.
