Drop rate is probably influenced by what's available on the AH.

Blacksmith is worth it if you get the level 60 plans. Since it's going to cost maybe 250-300k worth of raw materials/gold to craft a level 60 item. If you get lucky, it'll be worth ten times that. I crafted a witch doctor dagger that was a huge upgrade myself, int/vit/attack speed/+arcane damage/+40% damage. I'll use it until I find something better, at which point I can sell it for a fair chunk.

My experience has been the same as that of Tydus, bosses and rare mobs drop yellows that are 5-10 levels under my level, they're just NEVER the appropriate level of item and it's starting to **** me. The first time I killed the end of act 1 boss he dropped level 5 items (and i think I was 11-12 by then), the same has happened all the way through the game to the point that anything i havent bought on the AH is just way below my level.

@neko - can't think of anything I'm wearing that is level 50, that doesnt mean its not decent gear though.

edit: generally the best loot I've gotten is from Blue mobs in the world.

Finally got into the AH... selling a whole bunch of crappy rare items for about $2500 profit. The raw material is probably worth more in the long run but I need the cash now.

Well I've found the AH has tanked for me selling anything but exceptional gear for <10k.

Anyone else found this?

I think I was expecting a collapse and instead the great gear (I.E 1kDPS 1h) are worth millions and everything else is worthless. On a positive though its really easy to make an uber character levelling up, set buyout to max 20k and search for the gear you want, my 38 Wiz pwns atm.

Yeah, Ive given up and am just selling lower level half decent (not great) rare gear for just less than or around 1k. I know it doesnt help the economy but i figure im better off getting a few bucks for it in the AH than nothing from the ingame merchant.

There are still people buying low selling high but i dont think its as much of a market as it was. Its to be expected I guess.
All I know is my gut says maybe.

My bro has said that it's much harder to get a good selling price now... the market has been flooded.

On the other hand, for me, who is slowly grinding all 5 classes through the game, I can get some good gear for a good price. Maybe I just have bad taste in gear or have a different way of speccing my characters compared to others but finding some decent stuff for a few hundred is quite satisfying.

The AH does need some GUI updates though... the ability to get rid of items you're no longer the winning bid for or those that have expired needs to be there to help unclutter the list.

I do like the recommended items though, but they need to improve this to allow us to choose what type of item we want to be recommended... there's only so many rings and belts I want to buy.

I'm glad Blizzard implemented the AH... it's made finding better gear so much easier.

I'd almost go so far as saying don't bother selling any items which are less than level 20, unless you're willing to sell it for less than 1000. It comes down to there being less players being at the lower levels, remaining at the lower levels and needing better items. The game seems to be designed to have you level up quickly early on without any difficulty. I'm just going to save my lower tier rares for my other charcters when I start them.

As a level 46 witch doctor I'm spending no more than 10k on items and usually have no problems finding a bargain.

It's not really worth selling anything less than level 50 whilst people are able to powerlevel from 0 to 60 in 7 hours.

That's my problem I guess, I've made one of each class and while my WD is still at level 11 or 12, there's not much from my lvl 29 barb which the WD can use. Maybe I should just salvage these items for the material.

I'll have to remember to not spend more than 10k... I've spent 20k on some items (granted, some are legendary and others added a ridiculous amount of des, str, int, or vit and also had other good additions such as life steal or +exp.

I don't know if I should have been auctioning things this weekend or waiting for the real money auction house to come online. There's bound to be inflation if people can just buy gold, just don't know how much there'll be.

The hardcore AH is very different there... lots of buyers for low level items exist.

I have a new system for selling items: just list the item at lowest price (i.e. merchant selling price which is only a 200 - 800 gold starting bid), with no buyout, and let the market decide how much my item is worth.

Trying that atm with not much success. For low level gear, I find if I put a 1000-2000 buyout price, people will just buyout so as to not have to wait and I'm still getting 5x the gold compared to selling it through to merchants.

Of course, there's a big pile of cruddy rare items I haven't been able to offload what so ever.

My bro made over a million gold on a lvl 60 item the other day though by letting the market bid itself silly so there's a time where no buyout price can be good... else just set a ridiculously high buyout and see if someone has got the mullah.

So the Real Money Auction House is now live. Some items are going for $250, also it's been reported there is a $1 posting fee.

I don't really know how to describe it but I feel uneasy when I look at this game. It just doesn't seem right that people are paying $20 for an item and it feels like this game is centralized around the auction house.

I liked how EQ2 did it where they had a separate serve for buying items.
