Steam big picture test

Unread postby Mearehear » 9 Jan 13, 4:27 pm

Testing its web browsing features for the first time. Browsed from Google to here, logged in and created this post all on the tv in fullscreen using nothing but the 360 pad. Only took about 30 min.

Ha yeah, though I guess once used to typing with the gamepad it would be much quicker (I'm back on keyboard in it now). The thing I found strange to get used to was that you dont move a cursor with the pad sticks, it is always centred, and you instead move the page around and move linsk to the central cursor. Again probably ok once used to it, but I really expected it to be the opposite to that.

I use Big Picture pretty much exclusively now, typing is still a pain with the wheel but I'm slowly getting better at it.
I know it'll probably never happen, but I'd leave Big Picture on 24/7 if media functions were added.

Yeah I have been testing this arvo to see how well I could function running Steam in Big Pic mode all the time, meaning I do my browsing etc all through Steam. Like you say, it lacks media functions and I find the browser to be a little slow.

Between the wireless keys + mouse and gamepad I can navigate it well enough that it can almost become my main desktop for 90% of the time though. (Its still a butt load better than Win8s Metro for someone without a touchscreen  )

I couldn't get into the browsing myself. The normal steam browser seems slow also.
what I usually do is just boot up big picture when I know I'm going to be controller gaming for a good while. I do use the controller for typing messages in game but only really for quick responses really.
This may only be because I know I have my keyboard and mouse within arms reach at all times on the coffee table.
