EA learns nothing from SimCity beta EULA fiasco

EA learns nothing from SimCity beta EULA fiasco

Unread postby PalZer0 » 29 Jan 13, 9:33 pm

I was browsing through the Crysis 3 beta EULA to see if EA had learned their lesson from the SimCity beta EULA bungle and didn't include the problematic text that caused such a fuss then. Needless to say, I was disappointed.

It is understood and agreed that, as part of your participation in the Beta Program, it is your responsibility to report all known bugs, abuse of 'bugs', 'undocumented features' or other defects and problems related to the Game and Beta Software to EA as soon as they are found (“Bugs”). If you know about a Bug or have heard about a Bug and fail to report the Bug to EA, we reserve the right to treat you no differently from someone who abuses the Bug. You acknowledge that EA reserve the right to lock anyone caught abusing a Bug out of all EA products.

Fiasco?

I don't see any problem with that. I swear you just look for things to be 'annoyed' about.

There is something to this though... if that's a standard part of their EULA and they changed it after the outcry from the Sim City beta, they should have gone and rewritten the template for all other releases.

All up, sloppy wording and sloppy follow-up. However, nothing to say that EA will eat your babies, it's solely aimed at people who deliberately exploit games to get a leg-up. Butagain, if the game in question has no online capability (outside of generally forcing online play) then it's fairly disgusting to enforce this as back in ye olde days, such exploits were whatever the hell the player wanted them to be as it affected no-one else.

SO THERE.

I don't care anyway, don't have time for the beta. But in case anyone was concerned, Crytek aren't going to get you banned. :P
