I feel for you mate, I once had the looping sound issue and the only way I fixed it was to buy a new system...it could've been a faulty motherboard. Dare I say you've had the misfortune of having faulty hardware in both systems? :(

I'd say the last system was almost definitely hardware related as the whole system recently packed it in, however, this new system runs everything except HL2 based games perfectly. I can sit there and play fallout 3 on max settings all night with zero issues but TF2 goes down all the time.

Given there are a heck of allot of people who still experience this same issue I would say there is some kind of general software/hardware conflict with HL2 that valve is just totally unable to solve.

Uninstalled steam and am re downloading the game again today to check that there wasn't some kind of installation issue using the old ram....I'm not hopeful. :(

There is a Steam Forum thread where people are having problems with 64bit running Steam and the games.

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... p?t=752513

Sadly, by the looks of that thread there is still no official fix for it yet. There is a temp patch of just adding -32bit to steam (and the games) launch options.

(I don't have Vista64 so I don't know for sure... just saw this trying to help a friend the other day - who hasn't got back to me if it works or not).

Thank's Bicketybam, I don't recall whether I ever tried this but I will give it a shot.

I had a similar issue with HL2 when I first fired it up (I have 64-bit vista), but after one crash, the game has run fine for me since, and I also have had no problems with TF2 under 64-bit. Must be some sort of localised setting that trips it up, hopefully that fix helps :)

Get the same issue - sound loops and game hangs for about a minute, after which it will usually ork fine for a while - but pretty random - might be good one night, **** the next. Running Windows XP, with latest sound (XtremeGamer) and video (8800gtx) drivers. Usually happens when I play on #13 - lol but that is the one I play on the most. Thgouht at one stage it might be the virus scanner (the aggressive vsmon on access scanner from zonealarm) but disabling that didnt make too much difference.

This problem has arisen recently. Whenever a server changes level, when it gets to the welcome screen TF2 just crashes(I can't click continue). It doesn't crash all the time, but 95% of the time.

Any suggestions?

I had that problem when I first installed TF2 too, Zoo.

Defrag and Verify game files

If that doesn't work,
Go to the folder - program files > Steam > steamapps > username >
Rename the folder team fortress 2 to to team fortress 2_old

Run TF2, and Steam should re-extract a complete fresh copy of game files from the gcf files. That should fix it :)

Hey guys. This isn't really anything major but it's annoying
So, on cp and ctf_well there's that computer beeping and whirring sound when you first start the map. I find that 99% of the time that sound plays constantly and at a constant volume no matter where I am in the map.
To fix it I have to go to sound options and change the speaker config around to reset the sound buffer.
Now, I've used 4 different sound cards since I started playing tf2, and used 2 different installs of windows and steam and always had the problem.
I've come across others in-game that have had the issue but it doesn't seem to be very common as I can't find any information on it anywhere.
Any ideas, anyone?
Also, would there happen to be a console command re-initilise the sound? that would be a handy work around if I could bind it to a key.

Its a pain, I also get that now and then. I usually just hit disconnect and then rejoin the server straight away, fixes it for me.

Hi,

First post.. Just checking an issue.

When i try to connect to the servers (Internode mainly but others to) i get an:

Disconnect : servers uses different class table

I trolled around the net and found out its a patch issue I'm all up to date but im not sure if the servers are.

Does anyone know when they will be updated

(I'll delete local files and re-download soon to see if its my end... Only does this on TF2)

There hasn't been any TF2 updates recently.. so either your TF2 or the servers you're joining aren't fully updated.
afaik, the node tf2 servers are up-to-date.

So I would right click TF2 in Steam > Properties > Files > Verify integrity of game cache - that should check to make sure your version of tf2 is up to date, and if not, it will download the files for you. :)

Welcome to the forums :). +1 to pigfat's solution. Other than that, you could always try deleting the ClientRegistry.blob file from you're Steam directory - seems to work for a lot of other Steam problems.
