This is the palce to get some assistance when having trouble with the TF2 beta.

I'll kick it off:

Q: I cannot seem to get a list of available servers? Any ideas? Is there a new application I need to make an expception for with my firewall?
A: Had to allow an exception for - C:\program files\valve\steam\steamapps\<name>\team fortress 2\hl2.exe

Does it force a reboot? Or just sit there. Getting the same thing if it just sits there... I had to hit Enter/space and alt + tab... then the screen came back with a Steam dialogue box in the top left corner. It was all obscured but I could see the Cancel button. Clicked cancel and the menu came up. No idea what the box said. Changed my visual mode to Windowed so I might be able to capture it.

Could be related to why I can't see any servers.

EDIT: Tried Windows mode. The corner of the box was not visible in the bottom right hand corner but couldn't drag it onto the screen to read it. Clicked Escape and it let me go through to the menu - still can't load a server list.

Mine works to the degree that DoD:S works. It gets in game and freezes, most likely cause my computer is below-par. But why doesn't it do it in say... CS:S? If someone could answer that question, I'd be forever in someone's debt.

No it doesn't force a reboot... It freezes on the load screen, however nothing happens when I Alt+tab, Esc, or even Ctrl+Alt+Del

I might try booting up CSS and see if that still works

Fixed my issue, as I suspect it was firewall related.

Had to allow an exception for - C:\program files\valve\steam\steamapps\<name>\team fortress 2\hl2.exe

No warnings to allow this through originally came up, but after I installed the latest Nvidia drivers I did get asked to allow 'Gameoverlayui.exe' through as well, which I think is related to HL2?

If you can hear the valve intro video but it crashes after that, try the following:

Right click on team fortress 2 in the steam games list and select properties
On the general tab click the startup options button
Enter:

-window

into the box that pops up and click ok

Double click team fortress 2 in the steam games list and it *should* work (worked for me)

Mine preloaded fine, then launches the game, i see a the valve logo come up then some copyright stuff, then a background screen with a soldier etc and "loading" down the bottom, then a hl2 crash to desktop error.

Winxp sp2/ all hotfixes/ latest dx9

q6600, 2gb, 8800gtx's in sli, tried turning sli off, rolling back to non "beta" drivers, etc, still no joy,

i just purged all the content for the game in steam and now im waiting for it to download it all again (<3 internode steam mirror) i'll let u know if that changes anything

"-window" worked.

create you profile in the steam community service and your name should follow you where ever you go

Hey all
Am I the only one getting a lot of crashes. I can load the game find and most of the time i can join a server but i can only play for 4 mins befor the game crashes to desktop. I have just been playing CSS for a hour so i don't think it is a issue with my comp. Has anyone else had crashes?

I am running vista premium 32bit with 1900xt and it loads with black screen, can hear music etc then it crashes to desktop. Putting -window into the launch options fixed it. Fairly unimpressed! It is one thing to not support DX10 it is another to just ignore Vista all together.
