I've always loved SP campaigns in ArmA (and now IF44) however I've always hated commanding troops. There's nothing worse than friggin micro managing AI - go here, stop, go there, stop, wait, run, sit, etc etc. I'm sure the old ArmA had a command where you could order them to 'fire at will' or 'be aware' or something like that.

Bought it.
Updated it.
Jumped on Baskerville's server.

I don't get it.

Clunky controls, terrible foliage, ugly UI (even worse than vanilla ARMA2), average sound effects...

Had a better first impression playing the I44 mod.

How many people here actually have this?

I've given it a go, but there's only so much you can do when it feels as if there is only like a dozen Australians that actually play the game.

The tank's are brilliant even if lacking in variety
There are two fairly decent sized maps and one of them I think has almost double the size of Chernarus

I guess next thing to try is running the IF44 assets in OA.

Edit: Just tried it, It isn't going to work.
all the Iron Front files are labeled as .ifa files rather than .pbo, are they just renamed .pbo files? I don't know.
Edit 2: Apparently I just need to rename them, I'll have another look tomorrow.

Hate to break your dreams apart Mittens, but that ain't going to happen.

What is not possible with Iron Front:
  • To use the BI tools suite or Arma sample models to create assets for Iron Front (unless the modder gets a personal license from Bohemia Interactive itself).
To port any BI asset to Iron Front nor to attempt to port any Iron Front asset into BI games.
  • The work may have to be tested using Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead during the development. We still have to check the possibilities of development.

You can make missions, that's about it. Unless they buy a license and develop their own modding tools, which I doubt they'll bother to do, the game will be dead in a few months, tops.

Oh, I had no idea that it was destined to failure.

Fixed: Bombs can damage tanks in multiplayer now.

So that's why that T-34 just kept going after I bombed it 3 times...

I see no mention of the PAK-40 and it's levitation bug, that one was hilarious to discover and play around with though.

The fight for freedom is not over yet: Deep Silver announces “D-Day” an DLC for “Iron Front – Liberation 1944”

Deep Silver and X1 Software/AWAR today announced “D-Day”, an add on pack for the tactical World War II shooter “Iron Front – Liberation 1944”. The DLC takes the player to the western scene of the war. In the Normandy, the Allied armed forces fight against the German troops. ”D-Day” will be released in December 2012 and will be exclusively available for PC.

The DLC pack features new items and troops as well as new scenarios Players now can take on the role of American soldiers, pilots and tank crew members and fight for the freedom of France in the Normandy. Their armoury includes amongst others the M1 Garand Rifle and the BAR machine gun. Assistance from the air provides for example the P-47 Thunderbolt, whilst the Sherman tank keeps the ground forces in check. The German troops also heightened their arsenal: e.g., now they also have available the Tiger I tank.

Iron Front – Liberation 1944 will also receive a new patch!

Deep Silver presents new units from Iron Front D-Day – Community Mission Maker Contest launched

The Allied Forces are about to advance in Iron Front D-Day. Today, Deep Silver presents the American units from the upcoming DLC. The expansion introduces new weapons, armor, and military equipment.

For example, in the new DLC players can fire bazookas and Thompson submachine guns, drive Sherman tanks, or attack from above in a P-47 Thunderbolt. Also featured are the famous Higgins landing craft which the Allied Forces used to land at Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944. Thanks to these units, capturing the mainland on the coast becomes a strategic highlight.

The DLC will be available exclusively for PCs as from December 14, 2012, at a price of € 9.99. The main game is required in order to use the DLC. The D-Day DLC will be available for download only.

Moreover, Deep Silver and the developer X1 Software/AWAR are today introducing a new contest in which participants have a chance to win the D-Day expansion. In order to take part in the contest, players must create and submit a new mission. Existing missions may not be submitted as contributions to this contest.

The contest begins today and ends on December 14, 2012.

For more information and to enter the contest please visit (Link)

The winning missions will be made available for all players to download together with the next patch release. The creators of the winning missions will be mentioned in the credits.

About “Iron Front – Liberation 1944”:
“Iron Front – Liberation 1944” is based on the engine of ARMA II Operation Arrowhead by Bohemia Interactive. The story takes place in southern Poland during the Soviet Offensive in the summer of 1944. The player takes on the role of a Russian or German infantryman, using teamwork, tactical skill and authentic war machines to battle for victory. The German campaign focuses on slowing the advance of the Soviet troops, while the Soviet campaign is all about breaking through the enemy's resistance. However, the player does not have to do all this on foot: Using their computers, tacticians will control tanks, including the famous German battle tank Panzerkampfwagen VI or "Königstiger" and the Russian Stalin tank JS2, or fighter planes such as the Focke Wulf 190 and dive bombers like the Stuka or the Petlyakov PE-2.

Online is where the battle really heats up in "Iron Front – Liberation 1944": Players can
complete missions either cooperatively or compete with each other in special multiplayer modes such as "Capture the Flag" or "Attack and Defense". "Iron Front – Liberation 1944"
also includes an extensive mission editor, enabling players to intuitively create their own
missions and share them with their friends online, thus guaranteeing that there will never
be a shortage of new missions.

I'd pay them $10 for a patch that makes the singleplayer game less ****.

Screenshots look okay (not that it's hard to make screenshots look good).

I'd re-install it, but I think I have a better chance of winning the Powerball than finding another player on this Earth that is still playing Iron Front.

Finally.....The WWII game I've been waiting for!
Albeit the game has been sitting in my Steam account for ages and I forgot about it.... :?

I've been playing on german servers with 350+ ping and it makes NO DIFF whatsoever. There has been many times when I've come face to face with the enemy and most times I fire first! That for me confirms the ping issue is not an issue at all. (for players at least, server idk)

I have seen warfare options on some servers but have yet to play it.

It is damn good fun being close to detailed versions of WWII tanks, guns, and going thru the motions!
The armour facing is excellent and you must put your rounds where it hurts them or else!

When providing fire support from the air you dont have map markers or visual aids to guide you, so you either must fly low to see the enemy or work with your men on the ground using smoke and target indications.....fkn awesome!

Imo, the graphics are fine, the sound needs upgrading, there are some bugs.....but it's a nice change from n00bieness.

I only join the expert servers with Iron Front and I think that is how to keep these Arma game's great.
Keep it on the hardest settings possible, if you make the server to easy it attracts the undesirables.

Yeah I picked this up on the steam sales as well. Driving around in the editor in a Panzerkampfwagon VI annihilating T34's is shite loads of fun! :D

Even if the turret takes forever to turn.

Shall we pick a date for those of us that own this so we can duel it out in Russian/American/German tanks?

Any day is good for me but I know some of you have commitments so let us know.

Get some of this INTO you.

Right, well I've done the unthinkable and re-installed this. So get around that and get around GON hosting a server for it.
