****. This. ****.

That is because you have launched it wrong.

Go to Arma Operation Arrowhead in Steam, right click and choose properties. Now add this line into the launch options

-mod=@DayZ

Then launch Arma OA and choose "Launch ArmA 2 Combined Operations". You will know it has worked as it won't spit errors at you, and in top right of front end menu it will say in small text @DayZ.

Yeah I just realized not long ago I was launching OA and not CO, but still can't join any games thanks to the waiting for server messages everyone is getting at the moment.

So is ArmA worth getting for this mod? Planning to play with a group of 4-5 friends, and it looks really fun.

Keep in mind I've never played an ArmA game before

Grab ArmA 2 Free first, see if you can hack the playstyle. It certainly takes some getting used to, when compared to normal FPSes.

Argh, grabbed a bunch of loot from Cherno then started bleeding out for no apparent reason, with no bandages! Started running around like a maniac trying to figure out which buildings had loot inside in the vague hope of finding bandages and got a bunch of zeds on my tail...if anyone can get there soonish, there's a winchester and four lots of ammo in an alice pack in cherno, two city blocks from the west, one from the shore. Games.on.net server.

http://picacid.com/arma2/loot_en.html << incase you didn't already know about it, this guide will tell you what chances you have of finding which loot where. Helps a bit, but since loot is random it's not a golden bullet.

So, is the free version just the demo?

So yeah not exactly. Tbh I don't think it's really going to tell you much. DayZ is awesome, but don't expect an action game. I played for hours today, and I killed 7 zombies, and I saw one player once. I spent the whole time trying to find a box of matches, and while I didn't find them, I did find a winchester, lots of ammo, bandages, painkillers, glowstick things, a torch (that i left behind it sucked), binoculars, a compass and a watch. That's the kind of game it is. It's not about shooting zombies, or even players, it's about surviving and thriving, in a very dangerous world. You can see noone for hours, walk for miles, finally get some decent gear, and get shot by someone you never even saw and have to start again.

Also it's a lot like minecraft in that you have to set your own objective, or it'll get boring pretty fast. For example you and your mates might decide you need to build a car, or a helicopter, or find Night Vision Goggles, or military rifles, or collect enough sandbags and barbed wire to build a fort on some island. Maybe you want to take over the hospital, to take control of the supply of blood packs and other medical stuff.

If that sounds like something you'd enjoy, it's great. Otherwise you might want to save your money. It really is great though, I wish I could play it with mates.

It's never too late to make your first friend Mooncabbage

So, rumour is that GON is hosting another server. Sweeet.

AusArmA's putting up another 2 as well. Hopefully in-time to meet this weekends surge of players.

Should be about 400 total slots available over the weekend :2gunsfiring_v1:

Well you can always team up with me, Mooncabbage. I'm near Kamenka at the moment, planning to investigate the airfield W of Cherno tonight.

Make sure you check out the Military Triage base near the SW airfield on the other side of the road.

You get AKs with loadsa ammo spawning quite frequently in the towers.

Is that the medical encampment type thing? I went there last life, couldn't get into the towers. I'd climb the ladder, then fall off immediately. Shame, as there was some good loot there.

Will you walk into my parlour?" said the Spider to the Fly,
'Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy;
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,
And I've a many curious things to show when you are there."
Oh no, no," said the little Fly, "to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair can ne'er come down again."

Red chain/No Msg Received certainly seems pretty frequent on the game.on.net server. That said, its common enough across the other Aussie ones too..have had it on all of them, and each time it is everyone on the server not just myself. I would say gon has been the worst for me though.

Yep, every server. It's normally only for about 2-5 seconds on our servers, though, and doesn't happen often. Usually when lots of players are joining, so if there is Hive issues, people like to keep rejoining, and making the matter worse.

Hive was down for ANZ4 yesterday for example, and ppl kept rejoining, which spikes the bandwidth requirement, causing red chain.
