Actually, it says on the wiki that the addons folder goes in the OA folder.

It also says on the wiki that you MUST have the OA game, and can run the free version of Arma II, which hints at the fact that OA is the important folder here.

http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_install_DayZ

1. Download DayZ Mod files. http://www.armafiles.info/dayz/
2. Make a folder named "@DayZ" in your Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead directory.
3. Inside "@DayZ" folder create another folder named "Addons". It should look like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\@DayZ\Addons
4. Unpack all DayZ Mod files in the "Addons" folder.
5. Start the game as instructed in ARMA2 beta patch

I've been watching a shitload of DayZ vids on YouTube. The idea of roaming gangs appeals to me. I shall start playing soonish...

The thing that cracks me up is that the sixupdater used to be FANTASTIC to use, now it just seems like over complicated **** and the server browser makes no practical sense at all with the way ARMA works.

You misunderstand me. I wasn't trying to run DayZ in ArmA 2, I was trying to run it under Operation Arrowhead. I needed the AddOns folder from ArmA 2 (containing a10.pbo, a10.pbo.bi2.bisign etc.) and put that in OA.

why are you even using the addons folder?

use @dayZ folder and there is no problem.

Using something like worrom's updater for DayZ could not be more simple once you've installed Arma 2 and OA and run them both once as administrator.

my OA folder doesn't even have an addons folder.
So you've done something incorrectly.

Are you even reading what I'm saying? I've said 2-3 times that I needed the AddOns folder from the ArmA 2 directory in Operation Arrowhead.
Just to be perfectly clear, there WAS NOT ONE THERE BEFORE.

So, lets go through this chronologically.

DayZ 1.6
I have @DayZ>Addons>Mod files here
Works fine. No Addons folder from ArmA 2 at this point.

DayZ 1.7
Doesn't start properly.
Attempt installing beta patch for OA.
Installs, try to start 1.7
Cannot connect to any servers.
Change back to 1.6

DayZ 1.7.1
1.6 servers are almost non-existent so I have to try getting the beta patch working again. Google some stuff, nothing works. Post on Reddit thread about 1.7.1 that I can't get stuff working, people abuse me.
One guy says that he had the same problem and needed to copy the AddOns folder form ArmA 2 to his Operation Arrowhead folder

I try this, it works.

Is this clear enough for you? Do you need further clarification upon certain points?

I want to know why you need an addons folder that only one other person does.

I've been watching a shitload of DayZ vids on YouTube. The idea of roaming gangs appeals to me. I shall start playing soonish...

Gimme a yell when you do bro, you can come link up with the group I run with. Or at least claim a truce :P

he's basically taken the arma 2 addons (all the arma 2 stuff like map and buildings and tree's and stuff) and just poped it into his arrowhead folder
thus effectively turning his arrowhead into combined ops

same problem here - broken leg. Got sick of lone wolfing and joined up with two (noob) players ... one got a broken leg, the other was firing lee enfield to supply us with constant waves of zed. i used my last morpheine to fix guy#1's leg and in the process ... snap! they said they would go off to find me morph but have since disconnected. Wouldnt surprise me if they only got 100m down the road.

ANyway, if anyone wants to help a brother out, it will be repaid. pm me

Remind me never to take his advice on anything, that was the most retarded review i've ever seen, "I didn't do the tutorial and I kept dying, this would be better for call of duty" is about as lowbrow as you can get, either he was writing a parody of the noobs that annoy everyone or he's just a total moron.

I'd like to see what game he thinks can handle the concept of Dayz other than Arma.
