Total War: Rome II Almost Certainly Happening

Unread postby News Portal » 26 Jun 12, 9:33 am

The all-round excellent team at Australian games magazine PC PowerPlay appear to have revealed the next Total War game on their back page - and, as speculated, it is Rome II. The page shows a screenshot from the original Rome: Total War with a very large 'II' slapped over the topped in Roman numerals, so there's not much room for misinterpretation. We should so an official announcement soon at the Rezzed Show over the weekend of July 6-7.

Meh, the original Rome was good, but to me it seemed like a big step down from Medieval TW. It was the start of the decline for the series as it went more and more mainstream.

I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this though. Even the TW games I liked the least (Empire and Napoleon) were worth the money.

Woohoo/Boo!

I was finally getting around to playing the Total War games after having them on my shelf for so damn long.... now I'll be skipping Rome to wait for Rome 2... :/

But I do enjoy how they essentially review each game in the series. But at the same time I'd really love to see things move forward (or backward) into a new setting.

I was hoping that they wouldn't do another sequel in the next TW as I cant see how they can improve upon the original and the engine they have needs to be radically changed to go back to a Rome setting(You know so multiple enemies can attack each other at one time as opposed to a one vs one duel).

I would like to see them build the platform where you can link all the game titles together and have one big map/history battle,

from Rome to ME/SG to NP

it would be nice to have a cross over or a link....

but maybe if I want that in a game I'll have to play a Paradox game Like HOI2/3

OMG OMG OMG!!!

Rome Total War is one of my favourite games of all time, especially with the Total Realism Mod. I actually specialised in Roman History/Archaeology at uni. So I have been waiting for this for a really long time!

If they didn't do Rome 2, they may have done something like American Civil War or the Franco-Prussian War. I for one am glad they went back to Rome.

Unlike all the recent titles, Rome had a massive diversity of cultures, not just simple clones of each other. A Roman army played differently to a Greek army, which is different to a Gallic army, etc.

I can't wait :D

Sure it'll be great, but I'd have very much preferred to see something new. They haven't pushed themselves since Empire Total War in that respect. With any luck this one'll be on a new engine and we might at least see some progress on that front.

I have a burnt copy of Rome: Total War somewhere around. Literally, as in a friend gave it to me after his house burnt down. Genuine copy, just a little burnt. Despite the case being melted and scorched, the discs still actually work. Never played it that much, but it seemed pretty cool. There's a lot they could still do with the Roman period I think.

I have a hard time deciding whether Medieval II or Rome are my favourites of the Total War series, but Rome had fantastic atmosphere and really immersed me in the experience.

Also thought it was kinda cool that virtually all the voice overs in the game were Aussie for reasons unknown. I could only ever put it down to the fact that Russell Crowe had just finished doing Gladiator (from memory?) so everyone figured that must be how Romans sounded. ;)

I'm very psyched for a return to Rome. I agree that it had fantastic depth in terms of cultures.

Bring. It. On.

While I loved Rome TW for it's cultural differences (especially with the addition of the Total Realism mod), I felt the movement on the map was a step back from the region based predecessors. Mainly because the AI was much weaker once they had to move across varied distances and terrains, but also because the game became much more tedious to play.

If the are going to re-do RTW I would much rather they spent all their budget on improving the AI, but I am guessing that most time will be spent on improving the graphics because it makes for better marketing.

I bought all the TW games up to Napoleon, but quite frankly think both Napoleon and Empire were a step down, so gave Shogun a miss (although I will probably succumb given time).

Rome is pretty much the only Total War game I've played, and I've finished it multiple times. I've also played Napoleon for like an hour, and it was pretty cool I guess.
