Since when does anyone take the ACL seriously?

Though I disagree with the guy (and just you know, love, his form) he did used to be the Commanding Officer of the SASR. So some people do take him seriously... and I think sometimes you'll find they take him more seriously than his views.

Though you'd be surprised how much his stocks have gone down in politics since the ANZAC day episode... people tend not to take him as seriously any more.

Such as not going to Gloria Jeans since they donated $30,000 to the ACL a little while back.

That is a significant part of it, though I would say that not enough of us are willing to speak up on forums such as this - likely because we expect to just get demolished I suppose, due to comments such as the one below. I know there are admins here restricting it, but it's less about hearing it, and more about knowing there a alot who think like this.

I don't know this persons mind, but it seems likely that their opinion of Christians is based on the wackos that get in the media spotlight.

The fanatics make it hard for the normal Christians to speak up, because we are guilty (of that same extremist attitude the media like to play up) by association, the majority of the time.

You obviously don't hang around the forums much as I've made a few posts lately that aren't about DRM (like in the "EA wants a 90+ Metacritic score on everything" thread or the latest tech news roundup thread).

There is no such thing as “content unsuitable for adults” unless it’s deliberately committing a crime, such as Snuff Porn or something. Since games can’t portray any of that, due to all interactive content being created by artists, then it should all be allowed.

It would be quite easy for digital media to overstep the boundary into not suitable. That said, with an R18 it would be a little more difficult to do so.

I always assumed with the R18+ is that the standards for MA15+ would go a little more restrictive and the R18+ would be the current MA15+ but a little less restrictive. I could be wrong, but at least it would be less pointless than this guy's suggestion.

I just hope that when this comes into effect that parents think twice about buying a game that is R18+ rated for little 10 year old Timmay. The previous generation of parents are not aware of what content is in today's games, a sticker that says MA15+ does not tell them much, other than that the game is not 'suitable' for a child under 15 but they can play it if a parent is supervising. At least with the R18+ rating it will let them know that is is not suitable at all for the child to play.

I know my Great-Grandad's best friend was gay. Wasn't very open about it, obviously, but my G-Pop knew. So in a sense, some of them did.

I don't like this ACL guy, He sounds like a small child throwing a temper tantrum because he didn't get his way. Bring on January 1st!
