correction:

FANATICAL christian nutcase, since i am pretty sure the majority of the ppl don't fall into that category even though they may be religious (note: quote used by fanatics to justify themselves are usually skewed on grand proportion to fit their agenda, this applies to any religion fanatics statement).

If they are fanatical enough with politically charged motivation or just plain nutcase, they will pose the same problem really.

But on the other hand it would do a GREAT WONDER, if ppl also stop generalizing the whole lot, like for using the term christian as X for what a nutcase says, or using the term islamist as Y for what their fanatics do.

The last time i check gamers are not exactly keen being associated with a school killing massacre just because a nutcase who did it apparently is a gamer. So let's not do the same here either.

These sort of threads always bring out the prejudiced and bigoted, quoting "facts" (either to support their claims or paint someone else's as wrong) and generally justifying why it is ok for them to be abusive, disrespectful and rude.

Turns an otherwise useful thread into a who is the "biggest prejudiced retard" thread. They need to start posting these sort of news articles without the ability to comment on them.

I'm not exactly Mr Religious but that doesn't mean I disparage those who profess beliefs I may not agree with - especially when one person in a position of power says something that doesn't represent 100% of what their people say.

As a Christian myself, I feel let down by people/groups like the ACL. More often than not thay are extremists, and their attitude reflects badly on the majority of Christians (who are far more well rounded). This only thing this guy does is get in the media for being a bit of a nut - no one becomes aware of the so called Christian stance - the people see this and potentially write of Christianity thanks to nut-bags like this guy. Sigh.

For the record, I'm a Christian, I know and believe it isn't our place to pass any sort of judgment on any of these affairs (on religious grounds) be it gay marriage or violence in games. Please don't write us all off as nuts thanks to these fellas haha.

I'd have more sympathy for "nice" Christians if there were more high profile, outspoken critics in their ranks of the ACL, Catch the Fire, George Pell etc. Strangely, there is often deafening silence, with people only speaking up when us nasty unbelievers get fired up by Christian extremists.

But is that because they are not saying anything, or is it because what they say isn't covered because the media only covers outspoken extremist arsehats?

It's the same argument that people use against moderate muslims, "not speaking up" against extremist terrorists. They do, just no-one listens.

I've just cleaned up a huge bucketload of ridiculously offensive, intolerant nonsense about how awful Christians are. Let's let that be the end of it.

Sure, his views on video-games and ratings are outdated to say the least and I do not agree with them, but I doubt the diggers thought they were fighting for gay marriage and the Islamic community. Our freedom and free rights maybe, but it's a bit of a jump. I am tempted to track down that quote and see where/when it was actually used.

Freedom implies the freedom for society to develop as it may and be governed by the wishes of the current people. Especially a society descended from multicultural immigration. Australia is always going to have a lot of divergent views and cultures.
