but if multiplayer is integrated into singleplayer wouldn't that obviously result in singleplayer being online only?

also on the note of the person who whined about it being arcadey, can you imagine if as soon as you touched anything your car ripped itself to pieces? the pursuits wouldn't last long and it would be a rather mediocre game because it would be impossible to evade the police when your wheel is facing perpendicular to where it should LOL

Not if it's like previous NFS. You just have highscores mainly. HP 2010 had offline mode +D

i think everyone is missing the point whether or not this game even offers car customization? that was what defined NFS most wanted and underground. Not a NFS game without some sort of customization of your vehicle, and with gfx like these, oh my would it shine.

Customisation was one of elements which was part of the downfall of the NFS franchise for me.

Originally the game was about driving supercars on public roads, cannonball run-eque.

Hmmm, I have feeling this won't be all that much like Most Wanted of yesteryear. I loved the first MW for the arcadey driving and ridiculous singleplayer campaign. Seems they just want to get us to advance up a Most Wanted list with friends this time around. I'll miss those hammy cutscenes.

The way that Police AI just spawns literally everywhere is concerning. I guess they are really playing up those insta-kill / insta-evade triggers from the original.

I mean when RPGs were all text based, those were the days!

What a load of tripe. I've just finished an epic week long tilt at TDU 2, a very arcade racer and it was a stack of... wait, what's that word... fun!!

NFS:HP (the newest one) was also awesome, iRacing/GT Legends isn't going to simulate what it's like to fling a Veyron around mountain roads because that wouldn't be realistic. I love my sim-racers too, but there's plenty of room in the world for more arcade racers. Also just generally lol that you're in a NFS thread rambling about GT Legends.

OT: your experience at E3 is hardly something to judge it by? I remember playing Burnout Paradise with mates and meeting at spots to complete tasks.. MW will be great, with friends.

Theres no reason why you can't start with a decent simulation engine and add assists and tweak various things to make it fun to play and match the experience you are aiming for. The problem with the NFS series these days is the **** arcade "sim" they use makes it feel more like you are playing wipeout than actually driving a car. I find it hard to suspend disbelief and actually enjoy myself.

Switching to a different handling mode for "drift" events in underground really sealed it for me... its heading down the slope towards minigames and quicktime events.

The difference between driving in saints row 2 vs gta 4 is an example of this - SR2 felt wrong, you'd drive on rails in a car that felt like it weighed nothing. GTA4, cars were still easy to drive, but you'd slide around corners convincingly, hit things, it was hilarious.

What if how it plays, matches the experience they're aiming for, and people who like it find it fun to play?

It's fine not to like arcade racing games such as the NFS series, that doesn't make them ****, that simply makes them games you don't enjoy.

I like the driving physics in other Criterion racing games, so I'm looking forward to this one.

or lack thereof?

Why make the same game over and over and over? why not strive to improve it?
Why aim for mediocrity?

NFS-MW... Oh yeah ! Arcade all the way. The best in the series, I reckon (haven't done Hot Pursuit yet). Ram them road blocks 8).
Flatout2 - Another great and silly arcade racer.
Even more fun since Dick Smith sold me a G27 driving 'simulation' wheel for $150 - .

Make it over and over ? The series has gone through a lot of changes, some good some dud.
MW was a big departure from Underground. Shift a somewhat unfortunate departure from MW and Underground.
Similarly, the Col McRae series has slipped too much from it's Rally focus.
