Valve are getting serious about their in-game economies as they leapfrog off the back of Team Fortress 2's hat-driven model and into the world of DotA 2. As such, they've seen fit to hire their own in-house economist: a man by the name of Yanis Varoufakis. According to Yanis, Valve's opening line in an email to him went as follows: "We are running into a bunch of problems as we scale up our virtual economies, and as we link economies together," wrote Gabe. "Would you be interested in consulting with us?"
Yanis describes his new role at Valve as a dream come true, saying "Think of it: An economy where every action leaves a digital trail, every transaction is recorded; indeed, an economy where we do not need statistics since we have all the data!" You can read more of Yanis' excitement over at his new company blog.
