Cheaters in Max Payne 3 Will be Forced to Only Play Against Other Cheaters

Unread postby News Portal » 14 Jun 12, 1:22 pm

Rockstar are implementing a delightful new approach to cheaters in their online matches of Max Payne 3, by corralling all the cheaters into their own 'cheaters pool' and forcing them to play against each other. "Anyone found to have used hacked saves, modded games, or other exploits to gain an unfair advantage in Max Payne 3 Multiplayer, or to circumvent the leaderboards will be quarantined from all other players into a 'Cheaters Pool'," reads the Rockstar blog, "where they'll only be able to compete in multiplayer matches with other confirmed miscreants." If you'd like to report a cheater, click here for all the details on what Rockstar needs from you.

Or they could just ban them and not let them play at all.

or they could just not be idiots and not use local saves for MP?
because we all know it wont catch all cheaters and it will catch at least some people who aren't cheating, just like DRM does.

To be honest its not really good enough, They should get their RGSC banned. Ive already submitted quite a few people using the bloody "invincibility hack". I take this matter very seriously as it ruins the experience for the rest of us.

In the future I hope there will be a law against cheating in online gaming and those caught and proven guilty will have to pay a fine or get sent to jail.

Almost makes me want to get Max Payne 3 and some MP cheats so that I can record the action of cheaters trying to out-cheat each other.

Almost.

I think it is a great idea. I haven't played Max Payne 3 yet and I don't know how prevalent or secure the rest of their infrastructure but it is certainly an interesting mechanism to prevent people from hacking.

You've got to be kidding right? Cheating in a game becomes a criminal offence? I think your idiotic idea is at odds with your reverence for Anonymous and their values.

I sort of agree with him, not jail time, but maybe making it a criminal offence? Why not. I hate how the anonymous factor of the internet turns every 3rd person into a battle hardened, **** spouting retard - only because they don’t need to be held accountable for their actions.

I can’t walk into a shop and abuse everyone, then break all of the stock w/o ending up facing criminal action. Hell you can already be jailed, fined and prosecuted for downloading music... So it would not even surprise me if it is introduced (be it a long way away).

All games have to potential to be at the whim of hackers, this is only mitigated if they are an AAA+ game that can afford to spend millions of dollars in their development stages safeguarding it, but even then it costs a lot of money to keep on top of it. Some games, Homefront comes to mind, lost millions of dollars in sales because of hackers ruining the MP of that game. Why should game companies (and in the end, consumers) have to pay millions of dollars to anti cheat protection...?

Hacking a game/website is far from a victimless crime.

Besides, our society is full of laws to help contain the decencies of everyday living. As the internet is becoming more and more a part of our life, the law will be changed to reflect this. There are laws that stop my neighbor from blasting music at night, there are laws that stop you from drinking in a public place. These actions don’t directly 'hurt' anyone as such, they are there to help maintain the minimum standards we expect from common decency and our society. Why should the Internet be any different?

How on earth do you associate using aimbots and wallhacks in a video game to smashing up tangible store merchandise in RL? :? I'm all for punching cheaters in the throat but criminal offence? Come on...

This is a stupid idea. Why promote cheating? Why reward them with this form of "achievement"? They're only creating more work for themselves by challenging cheaters.

As I mentioned, the stealing of intellectual property such as digital music, is classified loosely the same as pirating a physical copy of music. Now a company (ie a store) makes a game (ie stock), and their 'stock' is damaged by the use of cheat/hacks/etc then the 'store' would lose money. It is pretty much the same thing but on a different medium. Sure one is physical, but with online company investing more than physical stores, they have a lot more to lose. If a game company has two flops in a row, whether this is a result of hackers or what not, it pretty much means that developer will be bankrupt.

The abuse thing was in relation to you being allowed to abuse someone over the internet anonymously with no repercussion. Laws have already changed, I have to state ‘anonymously’ now... Because if you abuse someone over FB for instance, you are held culpable for your text.

True that.
But I think the first guy to suggest criminal repercussions was kidding.
