I really can't see T2 selling upwards of 3.5M units in the first 24 hours (or 6.3M in the first week), let alone over its lifetime.

It's always the case, D3 is sold on expectations more then what it actually is.
A game like Diablo 3 which has been hyped to hell is more likely to be dissapointing to people because of it but something like T2 which not everyone might have played which no one expects to be great surprises people and thus people like it more.
If you want to sell something you need to hype it up, doesn't matter if a game is good or not. Too bad blizzard has dropped it's done when it's done routine.
