Bethesda Intends RAGE to Become Big Franchise, Mod Tools Coming Soon

Bethesda still "hopes and intends" for RAGE to become a big franchise up there with Doom, but is currently moving its resources to other things, including the development of Doom 4 using the same core tech team behind RAGE. "We're looking at doing some things with RAGE," said Pete Hines. "But obviously the first thing out of anybody's lips now when we talk about id is not, hey, what else is up with RAGE? They're asking the question they've been asking for five years, six years, seven years, which is, where's Doom 4? What about Doom 4?" Meanwhile, mod tools for RAGE are in final testing, and should release 'soon', according to John Carmack.

It wasn't really bad, more sort of mediocre. It was enjoyable enough to play through, just nothing revolutionary outside of some of the graphics tech.

I rather enjoyed Rage from the start to end, eagerly waiting for Rage single-player DLC or Doom 4 whatever comes out first.

I'm currently playing through Rage for the 1st time and I'm having trouble staying interested in it.
I'm not interested in another Rage or DLC at this point.

Bring on Doom 4.

I really enjoyed the gameplay and the Xbox version is poasibly THE prettiest game on that console. The story felt so tack on though, mod tools really feels like what was missing.

It had a lot of wasted potential and a shithouse ending, but i still thought it was a good game for the most part. With the last patch and a few .ini tweaks the game looked and ran great for me.

I had no problems with Rage, it ran fine and it told a story - but it is just not replayable or easy to just get in and have a casual blast.

Please id make doom4 simple and big dumb fun. Please please please, make the player run at 100 miles per hour, don't make me reload weapons every two seconds, have heaps of bad guys at once, stupidly over powered guns, heaps of power ups and no story. (oh and a bitchin' metal sound track)

Also make it so I can warp to any unlocked level, jump online easily and dowload user created content easily.

Do these things and you will have a game that lives longer than two weeks from release.

I can't help but think "Mod Tools = Bad Textures fixed by community!"
Therefore I can't wait til the modding community get their hands on the tools and fixes that console uglyness that plagues the PC version!

If someone tried to retexture rage it'd probably end up being a good 50GB or more to download, and even then it'd have to be compressed to all hell - if you're up for that, have fun.

I really think megatexture is the way games will end up being handled in the future, but the technology is too far ahead of its time at this point and that's why it copped such a bad rap from the community. Too many compromises were made for the sake of storage space and performance in Rage - the environment isn't very interactive, the lighting is less dynamic than it was in Doom 3, and yeah, the texture pop in that everyone keep moaning about.

Anyway, better late than never, on the mod tools I guess, though I'm worried id may have already missed their opportunity in fostering a healthy mod community around the game be releasing them 7 months late instead of on launch day like they promised.
