Rumour: Nintendo Cancel Eternal Darkness 2, Silicon Knights Now 'In Limbo'

Unread postby News Portal » 10 Jun 12, 10:36 am

In the wake of Silicon Knights being slugged with a $4.45 million dollar bill after losing their suit against Epic Games in May, the rumour is that the company is now being forced to lay off staff, after already having downsized from 150 employees in 2007 to a team of only 40 in 2012. And, to add insult to injury, Nintendo is now said to have cancelled Eternal Darkness 2 after realising they would need to stump up $10 million of their own money to keep Silicon Knights afloat. The studio is now said to "in limbo" - hopefully an official announcement will follow next week.

Another game company bites the dust. Makes me wonder if this whole process of suing Epic in the first place was an attempt to stave off financial trouble after the poor showing of that unforgettable game they blame Epic for not developing well.

Big money has brought a lot of great production values to games it also comes hobbled with all this legal **** of "lets sue!"

Been waiting 10 years for Eternal Darkness 2, It is rather sad as there probably will never be a Too Human 2 as well.

This is sad; the first game was great. I had hoped we would see another gem come out.

Im curious as to who owns the IP for Eternal Darkness, surely Nintendo could make it themselves. No Silicon Knights? Why not Retro?

Too bad as Eternal Darkness was the only good Silicon Knights game.
