Payday 2 Confirmed, 505 Games to Publish

Unread postby News Portal » 8 Jun 12, 11:26 am

Overkill Games were always hopeful to publish their planned sequel to Payday: The Heist, but without a publisher their dreams may never have eventuated. Luckily, 505 Games have stepped in and agreed to publish, offering the studio the creative freedom to continue development they way they desire. "This new co-operation lets us be OVERKILL and lets us develop the PAYDAY franchise in new fantastic directions long term," reads their site. "With the support and skill of 505 Games we are going to pull off heists on a scale never seen before!"

I do have a lot of fun on Payday, but part of me wishes it was on the source engine. Didn't have the most solid feel in the world but it was good enough not to detract

I really enjoyed the concept of Payday more than the gameplay itself. Loved the moment to moment objectives but I think the maps really distracted from teamplay by allowing people to wander too far or to too many different heights. A smaller map (ala L4D's twisting corridors) could really open it up.

The lack of players, too cautious to splurge on a (quite cheap) new title can't be underestimated in how short the life of Payday was, but the insane difficulty on Hard also didn't help. The meat factory in particular was just that central tower and death descending from all sides.... very poor mapmaking/pacing imo.

Hoping this hits console.

Best thing I liked about Payday is its netcode, i can play with friends in europe and the lag is barely noticable, there's a few moments where cops zip forward, but nothing major.
