Shadows of the Empire, so good. Also Episode 1 Racer and Rogue Squadron. Oh I wish I had been a gamer back in the day. I missed out on all the ones like the space sims (Had X-Wing Alliance though, but couldn't finish a mission where you had a probe to transport/protect but rogue Y-Wings kept coming and destroying it. :( ) and Dark Forces etc. Though I thought Force Unleashed for the most part was alright (2 had some epic boss fights) and Empire at War I just adored (space battles only, ground ones sucked), also KOTOR, wtf is wrong with you if you thought KOTOR wasn't good?. 0_o

/edit

Also Republic Commando and Lego Star Wars...I think there have been plenty of great Star Wars games in the past decade, just not the past 5ish years I think you mean. :P

So what the hell was Force Unleashed then?

Personally I'm glad I lived through the golden age of X-wing, Tie Fighter and Dark Forces 2 because quite frankly there hasn't been a decent Star Wars game in at least a decade.

Agreed, that being said I have enjoyed Empire at War and KotOR.

I stand corrected. KotoR was an excellent game.

I actually thought the start of the decline of Star Wars game was Shadows of the Empire. Lucasarts during its golden years was the equivalent of Blizzard or Valve - everything they touched turned to gold. Shadows of the Empire was the first game that disappointed me and received less than stellar reviews. The decline then accelerated further when Lucasarts began outsourcing the development of their games. Some have been okay, some awful, but only one or two managed to reach the same level of excellence as the golden age.

I did like Battlefront 2 as a time waster but not a real well done game. Felt like it was rushed.

I personally liked the Jedi Knight series games, yes I dare say I did also enjoy Force Unleashed 1 & 2 but no where near Jedi Knight, and the great games before them. I even liked Galactic Battlegrounds (Age of Empires 2 + Star Wars = yes please)

Yeah that was fun, I think it's probably the last Starwars game I played that I fully enjoyed. I can remember really enjoying the SNES and gameboy platformers too, and of course XvT.

They're obviously remaking Rebel Assault.

Anybody else remember when Lucasarts developed really awesome graphic adventure games? That weren't yet more Star Wars tie-ins? Those were the days...

I'm still sore at Lucasarts for canning Sam & Max:Freelance Police. And then inundating us with ten tonne more of third party Star Wars games. Thanks guys.

Star Wars: Force Unleashed - 6M copies sold
MineCraft: 5M units sold

I think they know what they are doing... Force Unleashed was pretty bland (and chock-full of QTE) but still sold more units than Minecraft. Admittedly, the sequel didn't do quite so well at 2.4M units.

edit: Or are you saying you think they should make a Star Wars game using Minecraft graphics? After all, they'd save themselves a fair few bucks on engine/art/voicework. Somehow I don't think it would sell quite as well... :P

And at console game prices rather than 15 bucks or whatever Minecraft costs

It could be good. I'll reserve my unreasoned rants for political discussions.

Yeah but at least Sam and Max are still having decent adventures that are fun to play - unlike many Star Wars games of recent times.

Tie Fighter was the pinnacle of the games, Jedi Outcast was perhaps the last solidly decent Star Wars games, since then it has been quite the hit or miss affair, mostly a wide miss.

Well, actually, Minecraft is at 9.2 million in total, with a full 6 million of that being PC sales!

I mean, I take your point, but Minecraft's figures are hugely impressive.

Yes, they are - no thanks to Lucasarts I might add. If TTG hadn't managed to grab the license we wouldn't see them again, LA would've been more than happy to let the IP die in lieu of a certain bunch of games set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Ah, fair call. must have been looking at outdated figures. :)

Don't get me wrong, I love Minecraft - I just fail to see why everything has to emulate it. It is just one game/genre amongst many.
