I think hatred is probably too strong a word, but I know what you are getting at. For me I don't mind Apple products, they have some great products - love my iPod. I love tinkering with my PC systems, I haven't owned a 'clean' PC system ever (ie no unmodified comps). The PC scene has always been about customisation and choice (to a degree - software is the great leveler)
Of course with Apple though what you have is very strict control of their items and a high price tag and if we are being honest their items are targeted at the lay tech consumer/buyer rather than the more avid tech consumer. Before the Apple-ites get on in a foaming rage, what I mean by saying that is that those flashy i-device advertisements are not targeted at Mr 'Cpu', they are targeted at Mr 'I like cool looking things'. This is not to say that the devices are overpriced junk that Mr 'I like cool looking things'will replace on the very next minor revision simply for looks, it is to say that their tech is imminently non-upgradable (outside of purchasing an entirely new device).
Their hardware is very restrictive but so is their software - heavy DRM, for not much particular reason, and regional pricing is a bit of a rort.
I like my iPod because it does what I want it to do and does it well, but I don't need an iPhone, iPad or iMac simply because I have no use for them or have other products that perform to my desires better.
