First 'Copernicus' MMO Screens Leaked out of 38 Studios

Unread postby News Portal » 25 May 12, 9:52 am

Somebody, presumably a somewhat disgruntled 38 Studios member, has taken to community site 38Watch to post some pictures from the studios' upcoming MMO, code-named 'Copernicus'. The pics show three races, the Almain (human), Dverga (what appear to be dwarf-like creatures) and the Jottun (giants/ogres). The art style is crisp and beautiful, and nothing at all like Amalur. Take a look inside.

So wait... Amalur was meant to be an MMO but they couldn't manage it on their budget and cut it back into a single player game, how do they still have an MMO in development? What kind of **** line were we fed?

1) not enough money finish your MMO

2) change it into single player game

3) company finances worse than ever

4) still making an MMO somehow with LESS of a budget

5) ?????????????

6) profit!

WUT?

Amalur was going to be an MMO. They realised they didn't have enough cash to get it completed, so 38 Studios bought Big Huge Games, along with the single player game they had in development. BHG's game was then reworked to set it in the world of the Amalur MMO and was released to get them over the hump. It didn't work.

The MMO was codebase was never stripped back to a single-player game, although it's plausible that some assets were ported over.

I personally do not believe that these are leaks. The 38 studios desperately wants to appear viable but do not have any substantial to be able to show. So these got "leaked" and all the gaming websites give it the same level as coverage as if they had of had something.

I am just disappointed, it looks good and it will be a shame when they belly up because even if this game makes it to release they still need to have expansions, new development and that is going to drain any money they might make.

Defies logic that when you don't have money to do something, you spend more moeny buying another big thing to finish the game, but then needs more time (and therefore more money) to rework the game .....
