''We separate ourselves by not trying to keep up with the Joneses'': Danger Close on Warfighter, Family, and why you Should Choose Them Over COD

Unread postby News Portal » 22 May 12, 3:18 pm

Danger Close's upcoming [app=8808]Medal of Honor: Warfighter[/app] title may look like another military shooter, but they're keen to show that it's all about the emotion and stress that serving your country can take on your family. Toby McCasker sat down with Creative Director Rich Farrelly to discuss why you should play their game rather than Call of Duty.

I must be one of the few that actually LOVED the last MOH.

I didn't mind it, but I hated the multiplayer .. in fact I only reinstalled it the other day to give the single player a whirl as I don't think I finished it last time and so far I'm enjoying it.

How many of those 6 million copies were bought because of the promise of getting into Battlefield 3 Beta?
I really didn't like the multiplayer last time, hope they kick it up a few notches.

Seems like they made a big deal about doing MP in house instead of giving it to DICE, wonder what that means for it... a better or worse copy of CoD?

Odds are it'll be worse.

Also, it'll require Origin which immediately knocks it off my hype meter.

I'm with you, excellent singleplayer and the multiplayer was perfect for infantry fans like myself!

Well at least there was no beard simulation of the first person view :P

Operators usually don't adhere to the same hygiene standards the rest of the military is held accountable to :P Particularly if they are out for prolonged periods (understandable) and if it is appropriate to the region.

Ie operators and shamags in Iraq and now we have operators wielding beards in Afghanistan.

Of course it seemed everyone, including the ATV's, were wielding beards in MOH so I know exactly where you are coming from.

I figured it was something to do with blending in with the locals? At least in those first few missions in the game where they're talking to locals and driving around in civilian cars. Muslims are religiously prohibited from shaving a beard, so a clean shaven guy would stand out.

I really enjoyed the singleplayer campaign for all its problems. I honestly think that the setpiece at the bottom of the mountain in that little hut is one of the best military FPS moments I've played. We knew that designers had no qualms about killing off main characters, and they actually made it quite challenging without breaking the flow by making you quickload every 5 seconds. Everyone running out of ammo... and I think that was the first game that had an audible que for when your LMG was running low (the rattle from the ammo box became tinnier as it emptied). I honestly thought the character was going to die and I literally air punched in triumph when gunfighter six came through.

Overall it wasn't amazing but I was happy paying the $60 (On release! From Steam!) just for that bit.

ALSO - the Generation Kill reference was pretty **** ninja.

Yeah, that scene was just awesome. The whole campaign just kept ratcheting it up as the missions progressed... and it never went over the top like CoD, there was a sense of plausibility.

I just really liked the infantry-focused online play. BF2 became IO only for me in the end as I just don't enjoy vehicle combat.

Interesting that they're doing their own engine for MP... both halves of MoH were fantastically playable but clearly Frostbite 1.5 was the sexier of the two... but it also felt like DICE pared it down so it wouldn't compete with BC2. It'll be interesting to see what DC can deliver when unleashed.

MOH single player was great! The shootout at the bottom of the mountain was better than any sequence in any COD or BF3.

I really hated the multiplayer in that game though it just ended up a camp fest on crappy maps I lost a lot of respect for DICE after that.

Maybe I'll reinstall it to try it out om my new pc :D

This. When one of your team mates at the end says "turn back the birds, we're dead"..one of my favourite moments in gaming ever.
