Surviving Day Z: One Man's Journey in a Persistent, Open-World Zombie Wasteland

Unread postby News Portal » 14 May 12, 12:42 pm

Day Z is a user-created mod that turns ArmA II into an open-world, zombie-infested wasteland with persistent character tracking and permadeath. It's dark, grim, and utterly compelling. Naturally, James Pinnell fell right in.

This mod put ARMA 2 to the top 5 on Steams top sellers, rather impressive, if I had the money I'd pick it up but then I remember I have D3 to keep me entertained for the foreseeable future haha.
My friends have said its absolutely amazing though.

Before anyone asks - yes, we are working on getting a games.on.net server!

We'll let you know more as and when we have updates.

Yeah it surprised me how popular this zombie mod has become but at the same time it is logical as many PC gamers crave a more realistic zombie game that is open and relies on survival by eating food and water as well as surviving other people and zombies.

EDIT: Just when I begin to think I have seen every mod for Arma 2 a new one comes along and gives me another 100 (or more) hours out of the game.

I've been playing a ton of it, it's great. Stand-offs with other players is intense. Didn't know the bandits were NPC's though.

Welcome to ArmA kiddo's.

They aren't.
All bandits are other players who have murdered enough to attain bandit status.

A very enjoyable zombie game! Not just a run through hordes of zombies spewing death everywhere.

I did not know this! I had been told otherwise by people in game and out, thanks for the clarification.

This sounds great, exactly what I want out of a zombie game! I am considering buying Arma just to play it.

There have been suggestions and rumors to adding roaming NPC bandits but I know for certain that at this stage the only NPC's are zombies.
I should know, I'm still a bandit myself.

How does the game continue with your character if you log out/are offline?

Finding it a bit too easy to survive.

It's kinda boring.

Definately. Not to mention there are many many more mods other than DayZ. I am working on a mod review video project about arma 2 so if you want to know what I think of any arma 2 mod just ask me.

For sure, especially since it's in active (read: daily) development.

Slazza wrote:Finding it a bit too easy to survive.

The latest patch just exponentially increased the number of zombies.

From Devs: "* [FIXED] Hardly any zombies spawning (Lol... uh... like there is lots now)

P.S. Re: Zombie Numbers.... hahah... you're all ****. deeply ****. Good luck."

Shuth wrote:How does the game continue with your character if you log out/are offline?

All servers sync with a central dedicated server run by the DayZ devs.
