Origin Opt-In Beta Reduces CPU Load

Unread postby News Portal » 11 May 12, 10:38 am

EA has released a new opt-in beta for the Origin digital delivery service, designed to reduce CPU load while the program is running, as well as what EA are calling "an improved DLC download experience". The 8.6 update also fixes several crash bugs, as well as bringing in a tooltop you can use to see the real name of people on your friends list by hovering over their listing (if they've enable their real name in Settings). More details on EA's Origin Blog.

Good to see EA trying to improve their client's sluggishness.

I honestly wish Steam would work on their CPU/RAM use as well.

I hadn't noticed any cpu/memory usage issues with Origin but still good to see it being updated. The only issue I've come across with the program is it occasionally didn't update BF3 until I tried to run it - didn't update proactively.

I haven't actually played any of the games I have on Origin lately so I don't know if this is still an issue.

Agree with the origin bit but what problems do you have with steam? Granted, I have a beefy computer but it seems to run alright.

How can they call this a beta when their current client says it's a beta?

I run an i7 and Steam is arguably one of the sloppiest pieces of software I have installed next to MetroTwit.

This made me remember a time at a LAN when I decided to shoot all the computers (on the CSS map Office) to prove how much I hated AMD.

I've got an old **** PC and Steam chugs all the times, Origin hasn't missed a beat though.
