got mine working

1. install launcher for tribes website
2. Copy files from zip into HiRezGames/tribes
3. run launcher
4. done

However I worked out how to do it the hard way but now I have more insight into how to troubleshoot/fix it.

If your patcher is stuck trying to download the patch rather than use already available version:
1. Go to Windows Services and stop "Hi-Rez Studios Authenticate and Update Service" (yes, it installs a bloody service to do background updates :evil:)
2. Delete the files in "C:\ProgramData\Hi-Rez Studios\HiPatchService\state" (should be two, "HiPatch.db" and "HiPatch.db.bak")
3. Start the service again
4. Copy the files into "HiRezGames\tribes"
5. Start the patcher, it should say "Waiting for validation"
6. Click on the gear to open the diagnostics window
7. Select Tribes Ascend in the list and validate

That's the convoluted way I got it to work.

Played for 1 hour just then.

I dunno... feels like its missing something. Teamwork I'd say. Feels like everyone's on their own little mission and just doesn't gel together.

Uninstalled.

You're going to blame the game for the players you happened to playing with in that particular pub match? Um what?

Great game, really loving playing.. its just fun to jump on and blow some stuff up then log off :)

But if I have to play against IBAW (he is a **** human turret!! such good aim) again im gonna scream!

I can play a pub match of tf2, quake live, **** even cs and have teamwork.

This just felt... disjointed.

The whole thing just didn't mesh well for me. *shrug* just not my thing!

give it a few more days the aimbots will start showing up. COD generation cant play fps without them. Hell just look at BF3 cod4 etc etc etc.

With not many "0 bullet time" weapons hopefully we wont get many hacks. Plus instead of people buying hacks you can just buy the upgrades and feel similar effects.

Can't play for as long as BF3 etc. Too intense for prolonged game play.

Plus it plays really well. Plays better than games like TF2. No FPS issues here.

I think my longest playtime during T1 was about 17 hours one day.... that was back in the days of [DL]. for T2 prolly 11-2 hours at a stretch. Couldn't do it today, health is too important.

yeah but not on day 2...

gotta give people at least a week to work out what the hell is going on, most of the people you were playing with probably had <5 matches under their belts

Most people I was up against were level 20+... they knew what was going on a shitload more than me.

Still not my kinda of game. Don't get me wrong, I was topping the leaderboards, but it didn't really flow all that well for me! Horses for courses and all that jazz :)
