THQ: Dark Millennium (Not) Online is ''Space Marine But Deep

When THQ announced a few weeks ago that Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium was no longer going to be an MMO, but instead a single/multi-player experience, many of us had to contain our disappointment. Now Executive Vice President for Core Games, Danny Bilson, is waxing lyrical about the game's innovations and action based mechanics. In particular, Bilson seems excited by the game's large amount of content and describes it as "Space Marine but deeper". Remove the operations/pvp
Add the ability to have 2-3 companions instead of 1 ..
And you have a singleplayer rpg..

Pity it was looking to be one of the better rounded MMO's and a good competitor for SWTOR. Personally I prefer to be a Space Marine or an Eldar Aspect Warrior than a pansy with a sword of light...

Oh and SWTOR is more KotOR turned into MMO, so you could say it started as an RPG

It was a dark day when this became not an MMO, i would've dropped everything for it even if it was a straight up WoW clone but with Space Marines.

Though a new light is dawning in that we might get a real 40k Battlefield type experience?

This scares me. Space marine was up there with fire warrior, promised alot but things such as the multiplayer were the saddest thing I saw since COD BO.

I hope and I pray that this game is successful. I loved Space Marine, but that was with major 40k bias. It would be nice to move through a planet that wasn’t a ghost town for once, from one big set piece to the next with actual humans still alive in it – mechanicum adepts still working, etc etc.

I think the move from MMO to regular game was a good one as them actually pulling off a successful MMO would have been unlikely. That being said, if it’s an RPG in MMO clothing (aka Amalur) then it’s going to be pretty disappointing. I feel kinda repulsed having to do fetch quests in an offline game – hell, I feel repulsed doing them in an online game these days.

IF they can pull of an engaging story, and multiplayer that has dedicated server support, I’ll be a happy man. Space Marine’s multiplayer was surprisingly enjoyable, with a layer of unexpected depth – it was utterly ruined for me by the lack of dedicated servers. The fact I was always matched with American players – even in primetime - just destroyed the experience.

Marcus, you really needed to hook into the steam Space Marine group! Generally there was always a few people online for a game and it made the multiplayer 1000x more enjoyable being able to hook up with local players!
