Shadowrun to be Latest Addition to Kickstarter

Unread postby News Portal » 5 Apr 12, 1:30 pm

Fans of the pen-and-paper roleplaying game Shadowrun have had a tough run over the years with their video game adaptations, as each game brings with it fresh disappointment. The creator of the setting, Jordan Weisman, wants to change all that and create a new game, a 2D, turn-based game specifically, that really nails his setting. With authors experienced in the setting to write story arcs, and a level-editor to create your own adventures, it sounds like this might be exactly what this setting needs.

It also needs $400,000 - from you, preferably. “The kind of game that we really want to make is in that unfortunate middle ground of being way too big for us to pull off ourselves, but way too small for a publisher to be interested in," says Weisman. So if this sounds like your thing, head on over to their Kickstarter page and show 'em you care. With your money.

2D turn based? Sounds almost like a rogue-like.

Could be a cool project.

Darn. I did a shiny news post thingy and everything!

But no matter. This sounds -awesome- for the level editor in particular.

Hmm, I've never played the Pen and Paper game but I've read a couple of the novels, hard as they are to find here, might have to give this one some money.

I'm curious what they do with Shadowrun.. it has had one of the strangest development cycles ever, seems to change with every developer trying to make it perfect and failing every time.

Yeah I'll back that.
Starting to get a bit worried about how many games I'm going to have ended up backing before I start seeing any results for all my money though. A couple sight unseen, fine. But there's a limit in there somewhere.

I love Shadowrun, but a turn based game makes me a little sad, I want that **** to be like Splinter Cell.

Can't help but feel that when these projects start getting released there's gonna be a lot of angry people if the games aren't good or not what they expected.

IF they get released... there is no guarantee.

Now that I think about it, Microsoft own the digital rights to all of FASA's IP... Shadowrun (hence the crappy 360 game), Earthdawn (god I wish they would do something with this), Mechwarrior etc... How much of the $400k would have to go towards paying MS off?

He says in the video he's bought the rights. That bit's already done and out of the way before it went up on Kickstarter.

bam.

Seriously though, I hope all these late-to-the-kickstarter-party devs realise they could all kill this method of funding if the games end up disappointing.
