As a school teacher in northern Melbourne, I run a video game related class for year 8's where we review games, do character biographies, and make some games using GameMaker.

Some of the kids end up writing reviews 1500+ words long, and sure the grammar is a bit off, but it's much more content then they would ever do for a book or movie review.

Back in my late primary school days (early 90s) I was into gaming. Street fighter, Mortal Kombat ect. but when it came to playtime I was mostly playing ninja turtles or captain planet lol. :oops:

The popular kids cartoons mainly.

The real question is why where they(parents or otherwise) letting young children play violent video games?

I hope they also showed these kids some pornographic material and some highly violent movies too. You know, to see if they affects them too. For Science.

Who are you to let critical thinking and logic stand in the way of a controversial story :lol:

Clear evidence that anything can be a 'bad influence';

I'd say Corrie and Eastenders are far worse than most violent video games. It'd be hell to live in the situations both those shows present...

eastenders is "reasonably" close to real life for many... The really bad ones are movies like Green street hooligans. You have no idea how many people thought I was a headkicker just cos I'm an Irons fan. (Sure I've bin in my share of ruk's over the game but Green street just took the piss.

I've let my son play violent video games. He hates grand theft auto as 'you shouldn't kill police'. Same reason he took a dislike to Black-ops, first mission with the police. The only problem I've found is he is hellbent on dad getting a good car after playing GRID, seems he doesn't want to come to my house till I get a Dodge Viper. He's just a normal kid, not like how I used to be making Ak-47's out of wood after watching Chuck Norris movies or how cool numchuks and my brothers head were after Ninja Turtles. Even got in trouble once for **** trapping a cubby house with a dead weight type device, thanks to z-grade action movies for the education. Or half assed arrows into legs after predator and Rambo... Freaking good times!!!

My ex and I are probably few and far between, as in, we supervise his gaming. It's not uncommon for her to ask me what a particular game is like before she let's him play it. I havent seen him or his mates injured once and by his age my brother and i had wounds that would scar for years, thanks to movies. Going back to my youth, I'd rather him play video games than watch movies.

I have never heard of a parent like you and let me just say: that is awesome work there. I reckon you're a proper 21st century parent.
Be proud, gamer dad.
