Dick Smith Sale a Scam, or Just Badly Handled?

Unread postby News Portal » 3 Apr 12, 10:43 am

If you went to try and snap up a bargain at Dick Smith's clearance sale yesterday, chances are you left "confused and empty handed". After the details of the massive gaming sale were leaked late last week, excited shoppers turned out this morning only to discover a distinct lack of items, particularly those with any discount applied. Many potential buyers are furious, claiming that the employees of Dick Smith got first dibs - a point which is addressed in a rebuttal from a staff member in Queensland on the PC Powerplay forums.

Unlucky, whilst at the same time lucky, my old keyboard lasted several years, however after getting the G19 a couple years ago it started to Logi**** itself after a year or so, now the little LCD screen only works when I Bash it hard enough, the other things still work like a charm, it is a decent keyboard but that one thing with the LCD screen annoys me.

I popped into dick smith when I was at the shops yesterday hoping to get RAGE and Red alert 3 and they had none of them but the shelf was half empty so they prob sold out already.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if people went in there and bought all of their stock at once and try to resell them for just under the standard price to get sales on ebay.

I was there on opening time at the elizabeth store. The lady told me there was no $100 xbox's even in my state and most likely in none, There was no DSi's nor PSP's even though a lot of the stores in my state supposedly "had stock".

The ONLY things left was a couple of games and PC / console accessories.

It's blatantly obvious that the staff had first pick, the actually gaming section was pretty much empty right at the start of the day....

P.S. To the gorgeous tall girl at the Elizabeth Powerhouse, playing with a baby for a while, If you read this site (Unlikely), You are STUNNING! And it was a pleasure talking to you! lol

So glad I didn't bother going to the Elizabeth store then.

Figured I was only going to set myself up for disappointment, and slept in instead.

I got up at 6:30am and got at dick smith at around 7:45am waiting till 9am until the store opened.

I ended up with 2 games and a G9x, One of the guys at Dick Smith said they had no consoles or DSi's before he opened up the store, but i went up to the counter and asked the other person there if they had any and they had 3 under the counter.

Yeah same experience. Total **** lol! It's not a scam because it was only to get rid of old stock, So I guess it's understandable. But As **** if that was a 7 million dollar sale "FOR US"

The employees would have known about the sale for a long time, and as such had plenty of time to plan, in this sought of scenario employees SHOULDN'T receive the sale price unless they go to another store that they are not working in, so as to discourage employees hiding items behind the counter.

Was there at front of queue pre 9.00am and watched store staff bring out consoles from back- check prices and put them out back. When asked if they had any consoles told us no even though they had just been seen. Staff member stood at tills buying gear he had just brought out from back which he had put away Sunday. Staff handing out consoles to people they knew. Customers not allowed to put games away pre-sale.
On line sale started nearly an hour early.
No opportunity for customers to buy virtually anything in sale because what little was there was taken for the most part by DSE staff, family and friends before sale officially commenced.
dse management responding to complaints by telling people to prove it. ACCC has allowed the degeneration of Australain retail behaviour to reach new depths.
'Fair go' - as dead as the dodo. A lot of people got a few bits - dse management let their staff take most of it without batting an eye. This chain is dead. All senior management should be sacked immediately - they've cost Woolworths millions. You can't run DSE like Woolies because there's other places to shop.

It was a complete jib.

Whilst I was waiting for dick smith to open one of the guys that worked there had the balls to come out through the front doors 5 minutes before the store opened with everything good in his arms he even had to go back for a second load through the people waiting patiently out front.

Also pretty much everything that was on sale online you still had to go in-store to actually purchase it.

Not going to dicks ever again.
