Case in point, bought Arkham City a couple of weeks ago. Was $39 on the website - $55 in store. Store was happy to match their online price - the ticket price didn't even scan in just went straight to the online price at the register.

I'm afraid you are incorrect, but only in this circumstance. Normally they would match online prices no problem, but this is a special promotion. The online business and the store business are run entirely seperate. To get the online offer pricing, it MUST be purchased online first, and then, when you get the confirmation email, you come into the store to collect it.

HA! I like that they are selling pre-orders for "METRO: Last Night".
Clearly the thumbnail right next to it says "Last Light"

False. I went into my local store to buy ME3. I grabbed my copy with the old ticket price took it to the counter and quoted the online deal and he said yea sure no prob as well as "all the staff have been stocking up aswell"

Then that store wasn't following correct procedure. Trust me, that could very well be an isolated incident. For anyone else reading this, don't take the chance. Everyone at my local store who didn't have a confirmaion email was turned away until they got one, no exceptions.

Either I'm missing something here, or I'm just so used to shopping around and not paying our "Australian Price" on anything, because I can't see what the big deal is to be honest.

There's maybe 1 or 2 things that are kind of cheap I guess like Skyrim for $34 (even though ozgameshop preorder was $43, a whopping $9 cheaper 3 and a half months later) or Mass effect 3 for $36 (Got my Gamersgate digital pre-order for ~$41 - no pickup or delivery required)

The things I would actually be interested in like Max payne 3 or Guild wars 2 Pre order are still at the $70-$90 mark...meh *goes back to gamersgate/greenmangaming/amazon/ozgameshop

Yeah, it's a bit like this. However if it is a so called "trial" to see how well it goes, might be worth getting on board.
