But What About GAME Australia?

Unread postby News Portal » 23 Mar 12, 12:43 pm

GAME’s seat of swiftly dwindling power in the UK has suspended all trading on the stock exchange and plans to close multiple stores across the country are in motion, leaving gamers Down Under wondering just what that means for GAME in Australia. Wonder no longer, the answer is thus: They are working on “viable alternative options.” Sounds mildly reassuring, but what does it really mean?

...Totally separate entity, of course. That's why they swapped out their upper management with a bunch of UK managers about 3-4 years ago. :azzangel: (been discussed/confirmed on a few other sites).

I hope they fail. Honestly, they are just another bricks & mortar store ripping us off. The sooner they are gone, the sooner publishers are going to have to realise that the old 'B&M stores drive up prices' adage isn't going to work.

Yes, I feel for the people losing their job, but they have other options out there for work.

"Seperate legal entity and business" was what they stated.

That doesn't mean that the company directors (presumably GAME.uk management) can't replace staff as they see fit.

As long as GAME keep there prices and stupid trade deals they are offering, they are doomed

It is so much cheaper and easier to buy and order online, i save anyware from $20-$40 by buying online, why would i buy from GAME, EB, Game Traders etc.

No, but putting people who royally **** up a company in a position of power really doesn't give the highest hopes.

I once walked into EB Games with a stack of PS2 games, was just before the PS3 came out. the stack was at least 14 games strong including 2 copies of GTA 3 and Vice City

They asked why i was getting rid of them I said "taking up space in my cabinet" and I haven't played my ps2 in a while.

they offered me 25 dollars. I said... That's fine i didn't need to clear out my cupboard anyway, I think I'll just hold onto them. and walked out.... 25 dollars that at the time of purchase would have been somewhere between 500 - 1000 dollars worth of merchandise. EB, Game, and other brick and mortar store that wants to rip me off can suck my narts.

Wow
Does not surprise me one bit, the GAME fiasco.
I walked in there once or twice and walked out disgusted, i thought EB prices were bad.

GAME Australia has been digging their own grave for a while now. Speed dating, those stupid rewards cards, the crappy GAME TV thing, their website not accepting orders sporadically?
I don't think you need to look to the UK branch to realise GAME Australia is likely in trouble.

This is why I will never ever trade in my collection, you're giving them thousands of dollars worth of stuff for a few pennies only for them to turn around and sell them for near their worth.

The one in my area is closing down, and I think the EB near it will be not long after.

Not that I mind I haven't bought off either in years.

Almost true. A few years ago I traded in $40 of games to get over $100 of credit. They offered the best trade in prices when compared to JB and EB. The best part was that I got them to price match the new games I purchased before using my credit!

I walked into a GAME store ONCE, I asked if they stock pc compatible headsets and the manager behind the counter in his pink shirt (in his bright pink store) smirked and said something along the lines of "you don't have a 360?", i walked 50m and bought my headset from EB and they laughed at my story and gave me 15% off the sale price.

Never went back to that store and it closed not long after because nobody shopped there, a single bad experience and I would never buy anything from them again, just the look of the stores makes me sick.
