I currently have my PC hooked up to my 50inch plasma (burns through electricity like a mofo) and i have no difficulty in using steam to play games on it.
What can they create that will somehow make it easier to play on a TV?

...Could be this customisable controller and the new UI.
Currently i do use a PS3 controller (emulating an Xbox controller via motioninjoy software) to play single player games more comfortably on the couch. But for FPS i've been using the kayboard on my lap and mouse at my side. More doable than you'd think!

I use a wireless solar powered keyboard [works under normal room lighting and has 16hour life with no lights] and wireless mouse [with its own battery, not disposable ones] and have no problems at all.
actually my mouse works on pretty much any surface so I usually don't even use my razer mouse mat, just use the arm of my leather recliner.
