Medal of Honor: Warfighter is Mum of a Preacher Man

Unread postby News Portal » 29 Feb 12, 10:30 am

It’s no surprise that anticipation for the next Medal of Honor game is kind of low, given the kind of lacklustre response the franchise’s reboot received in 2012. EA remain undaunted, and are planning to continue the new saga for [app=8088]Medal of Honor: Warfighter[/app], which is due for a slam-bang reveal at an external GDC event ahead of its October launch. The game will see the return of Preacher and Mother (remember them?), with Preacher being right at the centre of the FPS maelstrom to come.

I'm sorry.. what?

“When we begin our story there is sort of this crossroads that Preacher has come to that the relationship with his wife can go either way. She needs help raising their child and she is about to give up. But Preacher he is a fighter and he is going to do whatever it takes to repair that and fix that,” producer Greg Goodrich informed GameHunters. “It all comes to a head. That is sort of the crux of these two individuals and her understanding why he does what he does and who he is and truly why he is gone all the time because she now sees the evil in the world that he sees. Likewise, it becomes very real to him in the sense that the issues that they had and the things they argued about maybe weren’t as important as they thought they were at the time. It’s the kind of story you don’t normally get in a game about war.”

How is this going to effect us playing it? Will EA actually make an FPS with a story or we playing Medal of Honor: Playing Mum?

You have to hit her to make her understand, obviously. Queue controversy and free advertising.

People will refer to it as "The Kitchen Scene" in Warfighter. Gamers will says its ok because you don't have to hit her.

I played through the SP of MoH less than a fortnight ago and I can barely remember who Preacher and Mother are. At least CoD's singleplayer (in CoD4 and MW2) anyway had the first training mission familiarise you with key members of your team and made the characters visually and aurally distinct. MoH just felt like a bunch of poorly differentiated bearded men shooting at one another.

yup.

To be honest, i actually only bought the game because the guy on the front had a big beard and i like beards. I can't say the game was a disappointment but it wasn't special either. And the 'emotional' ending was just empty fluff.
I guess they've got to try amd make this game different in some way. Any way. Certainly sounds a little ambitiously silly though for an interactive medium. Maybe they should be writing books instead.

I'm tempted to replay the first one to actually remember what it was about, but at this stage my theory is that if you can't remember a game's story then it wasn't a great game and you should burn it, ie. BF3

Who is writing EA's stuff these days? GO BACK TO 1945 EA! GO BACK!

EDIT: Woooooop 1000 posts. Where has my life gone D:

I went into it expecting nothing special, and got nothing special. It really did feel like a hollow imitation of call of duty, a series that already had plenty of flaws. Jumping around so much to all these characters without any introduction beyond "you're x type of soldier" worked in CoD because the setting changed and prevented it from getting boring, and the action from the various perspectives was interwoven to include characters that were distinctive, something that was sorely lacking in MoH.

Said it before, and I'll say it again, without a doubt once of the best single player experiences I've ever had. At least it felt somewhat authentic, which is more than i can say for any COD game i have played. I actually liked the characters more in MoH, they were portrayed more as professional soldiers than run and gun, action movie heroes. Plus i loved the generation kill quotes.

Each to their own however...and that being said, what the hell was that about? I hope they don't wreck this...
