Press Beta weekend is running at the moment so it'll be good come the 20th (21st for us) when we get a whole lot of new info on it. Definitely excited.

@jellygoose
I haven't spotted any news on local servers unfortunately.

I hope they can pull off the server vs server vs server stuff.

I love how your character can go to any server so its bound to your account not bound to the server. :D

I also hope it can be a more skill based game rather than gear based. I don't have a lot of spare time but would love to be able to compete with the players that have no life/skill (so to speak :P ).

GW was never about gear from the start...

it was part of the point why it's PvP was quite active.

Though... well, you then meet face to face in tournament with korean teams, say hello to synchronized 8 mage firing simultaneous lightning orbs.

that said, it's probably going to take a little bit of your time to get some gears with bonus that complements your style and actually LOOK like what you want.

well the time part will somewhat depends on how rare and difficult it is to find this gear visual, the bonus usually is easy to get if you are not fickle on the gear look... much more complicated when you want it with specific look.

Really cant wait for this, but at the same time, I'm really worried about the latency in pvp seeing most skills are now skillshots.

aside of the positional skills though, the rest don't seems to be any more time sensitive than the GW1 variant and even in GW1 we could play mesmer with split second interrupt timing without much difficulty.

what i am interested though is how they are going to do this smoothly in the RvRvR where you can potentially have hundreds in the same field killing each other in giant massacre.

since traditionally most MMO tend to falter when large concentrations of players are in the same area, worse still when they are actively PvPing each other.

Body blocking was a huge part of GvG from what I saw, combined with the latency is why I basically never had any interest in GvG even though it had a pretty fun set-up.

I also found interruptible enemy skills seemed to lose about almost a seconds worth of casting time in PvE alone. Like a skill that took 3 seconds to cast tended to only appear casting on screen for some 2 seconds. I couldn't really ever reliably interrupt a 1 second cast skill near as much as the US players could do mine.

A 250 ping technically would make an enemy 1 second cast more like a .5 second cast when counting the ping delay from seeing the enemy start their cast, then adding the delay from your interrupt cast getting to the server. But still most of the time they seemed about a full second shorter.

true, but in GvG and tournament for example the one second cast skill on his side will be on short cooldown or part of his smaller set that is secondary in importance to block compared to his two or three second cast skills, so unless you are using a fast cd interrupt you are not gonna waste it on the 1 second skill and aim for the big gun with longer cast instead.

which unfortunately you can't interrupt either because if someone is casting 2 or 3 second cast skills in GvG or tournament they will shield it and make it uninterruptable from your spell which means someone have to knock him down or otherwise stop the spell with another way.

Or alternatively if you had difficulty with interrupting something, they normally barrage the target with slow cast hex that normally are laid down anyway since it makes interrupting someone much more reliable and practical.

The body block part is true though, but that's partly why hamstringing someone or crippling them with either ranger or caster is so vital in tournaments... it makes the movement arrangement far more feasible. Partly the reason as well why the mage's AoE wards are so powerful in them.

Well we kinda cheated a while back and used spirit wall instead of body blocking but then they nerfed that, oh well...

I dunno how interrupts went in tournaments or anything as I didn't really try to get into a hardcore crowd of players, but I did see rangers that would be full of interrupts in pvp sometimes and never let you get a single spell out in both FB and TA.

None of them were even using cast slowing spells on me either and still hitting the 1 second cast spells every time. :?

Probably took a lot of skill to achieve, but between the pings it would have been impossible for anybody with 250 ping to be 100% consistent I would imagine.

When they're full interrupt though they dont have any large damage skills either, so it all came down to locking down the other player and winning from the advantage in basic bow damage. I'd imagine that build would be pretty useless in most situations though, but fun at times none the less.

It's been a while but the rangers in tournament that i remember of don't interrupt casters on reaction on normal basis, they do when chance show itself like when they need to interrupt a critical skill that showed itself, but when they are assigned to interrupt lock a target and shut him down, they interrupt them on 2 things that i often see... either daze, or quickshot crit, the second build being utilized with assassin main and not actually ranger main usually, while the first one i see interspersed with poison/interrupt ranger.

on either case it's not so much they fire upon seeing the cast sign, rather they fire as many arrows as possible on the target with high chance of interrupting the target on each arrow.

i can't remember if they used choking gas for the builds, it's been a while but as far as i remember of, when my guild mate ranger or assassin/ranger is assigned a caster to shutdown, he doesn't even fire on him on reaction.. he just CONSTANTLY firing on him and almost nothing not instant ever come out while under his lockdown until he has to recharge his preparation.

effectively almost every single arrow he fires will interrupt whatever his target is doing, spell cast, standard attack even, he just fires them as fast as possible and uses his interrupt attack when there's something he absolutely must interrupt while his normal interrupt prep or passive is on c/d or otherwise unavailable.

i can't remember where the daze source comes from, i do remember it's not entirely from the ranger, our front line meleer's iirc inflicts them as well when necessary... but my memory might not be reliable there.

for mesmer i am pretty sure i see migraine in the build often.
