SW:TOR Australian Launch Details: We Speak to BioWare About All Thing Oz

Unread postby News Portal » 15 Feb 12, 9:22 am

It's no secret here at games.on.net that we've become big fans of [app=4600]The Old Republic[/app], and we're also big fans of the ability to play our MMO's on low-latency local servers. That's why the Australian launch of SW:TOR is such a big deal, and why we reached out to EA for all the details of how they're going to handle it. Picking up the virtual telephone was none other than Grant McDaniel, Senior Development Director of Live Services.

Free transfers, nice one.

About to start work again so my midday HM runs with american players is about to become rather difficult.

Do you think, if I roll a character on a new server with the same name as mine, then transfer over my character, I'll effectively get a free forced name change? Including the last name?

I'd kinda like to Catch 22 my vanguard and change him to Major Major Major.

I wish they were a bit more precise on where they'll be located within Aus, it's not a big deal but it would be nice to know which state.

...does that really matter that much? I never noticed a difference in latency between WA and Syd servers...

Honestly, it should be in the location that houses the largest netpipe out of Australia .. we're going to get very good point as it is, and they'll be wanting to service other countries near us as well.

I don't really trust EA or BIOWARE, if they do go through with it I'll applaud them for doing so but it won't make me resubscribe.

I keep telling myself with all the things I hated in the game

- They will patch it out
- Its only just been released
- It will get better
- WoW's been around much longer so its unfair for me to compare

Then I just realized it is not going to happen and unsubscribed.

They really should have patched that team stacking exploit out ALONG time ago.

My friend said to me that the new state of the art medical research center in Adelaide cost around the same price as SWTOR did to develop. Makes you really wonder where all the money went when with what is left is a pretty sub par product.

I don't think Australian servers are going to make a difference when there are so many other things wrong with the game.

I'll be getting it when it's released here. It will be my first subscription MMO ever.

According to TOROZ they're going to be in Sydney or Melbourne.

It will be interesting to play an mmo on a local server and see how much smoother the skills are.
I generally swap between multiple mmos during the year but if this cleans Tor up its going to make other mmos feel terrible to go back to.
