Ever thought about bringing a gatling gun to a swordfight? Now you can, because Fall of the Samurai is coming soon and it's going to drag the world of [app=7086]Shogun 2[/app] into the modern era, kicking and screaming. We sent Zisheng Chen along to SEGA to check it out for himself.

Sounds really enticing, I'll be sure to pick this one up - Right around 6 months after release when half those new features have actually been patched in and a third of those are working as intended.

As a minor fan of the total war series who hasn't got Shogun 2, do you think I should get this first?
As a standalone expansion it'll only cost $30 compared to full priced shogun 2, would be better value for a good single player campaign.
whaddya reckon?

I hope they've improved the loading times, they went to absolute hell with the dx11 patch - for me anyway.

Playing through a whole grand campaign as one of the factions will be comparable to Shogun 2, so you would definitely be getting your money's worth, particularly if you replay a campaign as the opposite allegiance or decide to screw everyone and take the whole of Japan for yourself. Having said that, you're free to switch allegiance midway but that negatively impacts your ability to engage in diplomacy. I also forgot to mention the multiplayer, which is compatible with owners of Shogun 2 (I think - can't remember).

There are quite a lot of changes in FOTS, and it's pretty hard to squeeze them into 500 words. I also forgot to mention how the Realm Divide event during the end-game has been tweaked to cater for people who liked it as well as those who hated it. As long as you keep the allies who have the same allegiance as you happy, Realm Divide will no longer cause everyone to hate you... unless you want them to, of course, by declaring war on them and taking Japan for yourself to make a republic.

that's great...

realm divide was one of those 'facepalm worthy' feature CW introduced to speed bump your steam rolling except the 'feature' also end up killing the other feature of the game (ie: diplomacy) right out of the window.

good to see they can see some sense there.

incidentally, mods to expand shinsengumi is just completely no brainer... i am looking forward to what the community will make for it.
