Digital distrubtors not overly fond of MW2's

If i am correct did Cities XL have this type of DRM applied too. Maybe this could be where the next generation of Software publishing is headed. Just think about all the titles being a back to base DRM . Seems like the days of Single player gaming is coming to a abrupt halt and we all now required to have access to a internet connection.

This has a very nasty and spiteful overtone to the scenario and the future of PC Gaming.

Everyone knows they just don't want to deliver a crap multiplayer system to people, they just were too scared to say it.

I'm not overly fond of the digital distributors at the moment, why would I possibly want to pay $96 for a copy of MW2 through Steam when I can get a hard copy for $70.

The publisher sets the price on Steam, not the owner of the digital distribution method. Most games on Steam are significantly cheaper than Aussie retail.

It's odd really, when CoD4 first came out on Steam it was released for 50 or so US, which was 20-30 dollars (AUD) cheaper than the best retail price at the time. Then in a fortnight or so they bumped the price up to 84.50 US claiming the original price had been a mistake.

Well currently MW2 is $96 through Steam, or I could get a hardcopy for $70 from here. Not to mention the Steam version comes out 2 days after the retail version, so there is even less incentive to get it through Steam.

You missed Jez's point. It's not that Steam or the other digital distributors are playing silly buggers with the pricing and release date, it's down to the publisher. Valve/Steam isn't the publisher of MW2, Activision are publishing it and as they did with the original Modern Warfare they've chosen to keep the price in line with what retail stores here will be charging.

Getting annoyed at the digital distributors is misplaced rage. There's not a lot they can do about it if they want to still sell the game.
And I think you'll find most digital distributors are steering clear anyway since the game is bundling Steam. So it's pretty much just Steam selling it over the internets.

And for those having a go at DD's your angst is far misplaced! The key is in their name, they are simply a distributor, they sell the game at a price given to them by the developers and generally have a deal worked out with them taking a % of each game sold via their DD.
