Gratuitous Space Battles demo now live

Part tower defence, part grand strategy, part sci-fi mayhem, Gratuitous Space Battles is a unique take on the space combat genre -- and the playable demo is available now.

Developer Positech sees its latest creation as a breath of fresh air for PC gaming: "Gratuitous Space Battles aims to bring the over-the-top explodiness back into space games. The game is for everyone who has watched big space armadas battle it out on TV and thought to themselves 'I could have done a much better job as admiral'..."

Havent played the demo for that, but I've been playing this which is similar (2D Space Strategy), and I think better:

Yeah I know

. Well I watched the trailer of Gratuitous, and from the description of why the game is worth playing, I was pretty meh. I prefer the AI challenge in AI War.

Of course, something that I wish was in AI War was ship design, so I suppose that could be kind of interesting in GSP.

Maybe I should just go play masters of orion 2, with tactical battles. Man that was awesome.

either way great games.

you could play Space Empires, but its not as good.

MOO 3 was such a disappointment.

+1 Galactic Civ is a great game. It has fantastic AI and you can design your own ships which is really cool.

Played a fair bit.

Not enough depth/challenge single player for me.

Pretty much no way to come back from loosing PvP, and you get to a point where the AI has lost and theres no point grinding the next 5 hours.

Very much like the cinematic feel of the game, how you can just sit back and watch your battles.

In my opinion they're fairly different games. They have the same theme, but AI War is grand scale RTS as opposed to GSB, which is all about planning and watching the results.

That being said, I absoultely love AI War. If you haven't tried it out already, please do so. It might look intimidating in terms of scale, but the tutorials are so good it's actually one of the easier RTS games to get a grip on.

are there reviews? cuz I wanna know exactly how the game plays, not a fan of turn based not even in the least, couldn't even finish the galactic civ 2 demo >.<
