Virtua Tennis 2009 (Xbox 360 Review)

These days, when people think of "Tennis" as a video game, their minds automatically flit to a certain motion-detecting console - but you have to remember that's a very modern mindshift, when you look at gaming as a whole.

Before there were game controllers being thrown through televisions, Sega had their own ballboy, which has now been revamped for a new generation. I am of course talking about Virtua Tennis 2009 - which also happens to be the topic of today's review!

Good review.

Those were my thoughts when I tried it the other day at JB. Graphics for Virtua Tennis 3 looked so much better and it plays better too.

I've been looking for a tennis game for the 360, is this series the better option to go for or is Top Spin the better franchise?

Depends on what you're after.

Tops Spin has a reputation for being a better tennis sim (i.e. more realistic). I can't comment any more because I've never played the Top Spin series.

I prefer Virtua Tennis 3 as I wanted a more arcadey tennis game and I enjoyed the previous Virtua Tennis titles so I knew what I was getting myself into. IMHO, this would be the game to get if you wanted a tennis game that mates can get into easily for some 4 player gaming.

Yeah that was the sort of feel I was going for, a bit more arcadey for a 4 person pick up play. Thanks!

I've been enjoying Virtua Tennis 2 on the old PS2 with my girlfriend lately. As someone who has never personally owned a copy of Virtua Tennis, would I be better off getting the shiny new 2009 game, or tracking down an old copy of Virtua Tennis 3 instead? Relatively minor improvements obviously don't bother me because I've never played 3 to compare.

Basically, which one is the better game if you've never played either?
