When you consider that Australia is well known for its history of refusing to classify video games that are considered "too violent", you'll understand the surprise when Sega's Wii-exclusive brawler MadWorld was granted an MA15+ rating at the beginning of the year.

It was labelled clearly as featuring "Strong bloody violence, Strong coarse language", and the black and white, arty brawler swept onto our shelves. Matt Keller braced himself and stepped into Varrigan City, to see what all the fuss is about - and if the Wii can handle this sort of 'hardcore' release.

A little bit of the ol' ultra-violence like real horror show my brothers.

It looks like fun game.

The biggest problem with this game is its cheap attempt at adding longevity via the use of level restarts. Fail to survive a Boss battle and you’re forced to replay the entire level again in order to have a second chance. If I could redo a Boss battle from its starting sequence - even with the same number of lives I originally got there with – I would score this game higher.

The first time I played this game I laughed and giggled at the ludicrous mayhem and filth ridden commentary. The second time not so much. The first hour or two of this game was definitely the best however, due to sheer repetition of the “sports commentary” and level grind, it was soon delegated to half an hour or so every day or four.

Thinking of renting it instead? Don’t, I can’t see how you’d get near the end in one weekend without being bored out of your skull with it.

Still I recommend it and the review score is pretty much spot on. A good, average game.

Why recommend it if you say to not to even rent it. lol.

i beat it in only 4 and a half hours , and for the moment it hasn't left me wanting to play though it again

With that said, i loved the visuals! i thought they were fantastic, plus the commentary made it much more interesting however as everyone says, it does get repetitive. Boss battles were great too as well as the bloodbath challenges, but overall it is just an ok game. It has some great moments, but it uses those moments too often such as the commentary, and even some of the bloodbath challenges are reused which was a real disappointment.

a fun game, but i found you cannot play it for long periods before you get bored (not that 4 and a half hours leaves you many long periods to work with)

Because it's not a bad game, it's just too repetitive to be crammed into the limited time frame forced upon you by renting it from the video store.

It might not sound like Shrew is making sense, but he makes a very valid point +1
